Waking up after the weekend for school was never easy.
Every Sunday, I almost miss my bus to school. Honestly, that was almost every day, but that's beside the point.
"You're going to meet her today." I said to my reflection in the bathroom mirror, "Your ticket out of this misery."
Maybe...
That word ran through my head repeatedly as I finally reached the school. I almost ran into class, nervous and excited, only to be disappointed.
I let out the breath that I held unconsciously, as I ran my eyes over the classroom.
"You okay?" Mariah asked, giving me a weird look. "You look like you're looking for someone."
"I am. It's the new girl."
Mariah looked taken aback. "We have a new girl?!"
Clueless as always.
I bit back a smile as I nodded my head as I scanned the classroom once more.
"Huh. Well, I have no idea." She said as she shrugged.
"Hey, Mariah! Wanna go up to 10 A?" One of my classmates asked as she walked towards us. "Hi, Sandra."
I smiled in greeting as the girl – I think her name was Zia – dragged Mariah upstairs.
Well, that was useful.
"Sandra, I think I heard you asking Mariah about the new girl?"
I turned to the voice and spotted Liana, the girl who spoke.
I smiled and nodded. "Hai."
"Oh, she's in the other section. Lana came by earlier and told me."
"Really? Have you met her?"
"No, Lana just came by to make sure she didn't go to the wrong class."
"Arigatou gozaimasu, Lia-chan!" I exclaimed happily, walking over with my arms spread for a hug.
"No problem." She accepted my hug and patted my back.
I started running to the other section of grade 10, section A
I skidded to a stop as I reached it, looking up at the sign on the right side of the door that marked the class as 10 A.
I went in and immediately spotted Mariah and Zia chatting with a large group of girls in the left corner. Mariah waved at me and went back to talking. I looked around until spotted Sally, Lana's classmate, speaking to an unfamiliar girl. Bingo.
"Hi." I said waving my hand, as I walked over to her.
I didn't know what impression I gave her, but I was sure that I showed her how weird and crazy I was, and as the time passed by, I realized that I spilled almost everything about my otaku nature.
All she did was stare, almost as if she was shocked that I was treating her as if we knew each other and were besties.
I could see it on her face that she was uncomfortable and uncertain; all the feelings that a new kid would feel at the first day in a totally new school. I was stuck in the same school since elementary, so I didn't exactly know the feeling of feeling being 'new', but I think it was the fear of the unknown and being judged.
Afraid of bullies, haters or mean teachers, perhaps?
I looked at my watch after a while and realized that I had two minutes before the first class began, so I said my goodbyes and went to back to my class. I took out Economic books and was about to go upstairs for that class when I noticed that Sam was sitting at her desk beside me and not talking to Maya.
"Is Mee absent today?" I asked Sam, as I gathered my books.
"I don't know, she didn't tell me anything." She shrugged, before looking at the Physics teacher who just arrived and was urging all the non-Physics girls out of the class.
I nodded in reply before walking out of the class, leaving Sam behind, as she took Physics which clashes with Economics.
I managed to make it to my Economics class before the teacher and sat down next to Mariah.
"Ohayo, Mia-Chan!" I said as I dropped into my chair.
"Hey." she answered, with one of her usual smiles. "And it's Mariah."
I rolled my eyes at her. "I'm calling you Mia-Chan, anyways."
Before she could reply, our Economics teacher walked in and Mariah got distracted as she cheerfully greeted the teacher.
"Mia-Chan." I whispered to her, right before the class started.
---
"Guys, this is Rosie." I said, introducing Rosette – the new girl- to Maya and Samantha during break time.
"Rose, this is Mee-" I pointed to Maya, "-and this is Sam!" I said, introducing Maya and Samantha to Rosette this time
"Is it Rosie or Rose?" Sam asked frowning; she always pointed out the silliest things in conversations.
"Well..." I replied, "both Rosie and Rose work, and I couldn't pick one, so we can use both!"
"And by the way, my name is Maya, not Mee." Maya shot me a glare.
I tried not to burst out laughing; she hated the nickname I created for her and gets really pissed if someone calls her Mee.
"Hi" Rosie said, softly and calmly.
---
"Sandy, I don't like her." said Sam as we went up the stairs to our class after break.
"I know right? Oh my god she's such a show off!" Mee exclaimed.
Sam shrugged as she said, "Maya, it's her first day in school remember? She would act like a show off to fit in, may-"
I stopped short and turned around to glare at them. "Hey! Wait a sec! A show off? Seriously?! You've only just met her, how could you make out who she is?"
I'm pretty sure they could tell that I was really pissed by the quick way they judged her and I decided that maybe I needed to calm down a bit. I resumed walking as I said in calmer tones, "It's rude, Mee."
"Oh, I'm sorry mama!" Maya said sarcastically, which resulted in Sam laughing loudly.
I rolled my eyes and went into the class.
---
Throughout the week, I would hear nothing but
"She's such a show off."
"O-M-G! She's so cold!"
"Who does she think she is?!"
And other means stuff about Rosette.
I tried my best to stop them, but Sam and Mee never listened, so I eventually gave up.
But life still goes on.
I became closer to Rosie, the new girl who –hopefully- wasn't still being called 'the new girl' except during the first two days in which she transferred to our class.
The closer I got to Rosie, the more mad both Sam and Maya became even though they tried their level best to not show how much they actually hate her.
Rosette...
