Knock, Knock, Knock!

Thor banged his fists against Jane Foster's front door thunderously while Loki rolled his eyes in annoyance-but was happy his brother had not seen it.

Today he was to be on his best behavior; his freedom depended on it. After aiding Thor in the fight against the Dark Elves Thor appealed to Odin to release Loki. Odin had agreed that once his trust was rightfully earned he would allow Loki's freedom, under certain restrictions.

The start of that wavering trust was allowing Loki the night out of his cell, the certain restriction being Thor and having to accompany him to Midgard to celebrate a holiday called Thanksgiving.

The night in his cell was looking far more appealing.

It was a cold night, and the Midgardian clothing the Thor gave him felt awkward on his body, which only seemed to add to his annoyance.

"Shame." Loki deadpanned, "Doesn't seem like she's home."

Loki swiftly turned to leave, but Thor gripped his arm before he could escape.

"Don't be so cross brother, " Thor said with a laugh at his futile attempt to escape, "Who knows, you may gather something from this Midgardian ritual."

Loki rolled his eyes and doubted his brother's words.

There wasn't much he was thankful for.

Much to Loki's dismay, Jane opened the door and the apron that tied around her small waist was coated in flour and a variety of sauces. She beamed when she saw Thor and quickly embraced him in a tight hug and only faltered when her eyes fell upon his brother.

"Loki." She said shocked, "I didn't expect you coming today."

Her eyes fleeted from Thor to Loki and expressed that she was clearly shaken up by the unexpected guest, but still gave Loki an awkward half smile.

Loki smirked and did not allow his expression to give away that he was feeling just as uncomfortable as she.

"Jane." He said with a nod of recognition, " It was Thor's idea."

"Oh really?" She said quirking an eyebrow and turning toward Thor for answers.

Thor shifted uncomfortably under her gaze, which quite amused Loki, and he cleared his throat before whispering, "Father encouraged it."

Jane stiffened for a moment at Thor's words and Loki eyed her carefully.

Strange

"Well," she whispered for only Thor to hear. "If he does anything, its on you and your father."

"Heard that." Loki muttered, but Jane ignored him and let them inside.

A fire was going inside, so as they stepped in, their faces were immediately warmed. Loki wrinkled his nose as the smell of something burning rose to his nose.

"That would be the biscuits." Jane said sheepishly as she covered her nose with the sleeve of her sweater. "They're a bit brown, but I suppose they'll be fine."

"They won't" Darcy cringed as she came out from the kitchen.

"Those things are blacker than the pit of Hell." Ian exclaimed as he followed his girlfriend.

Darcy slapped his arm and gave him a look to warn him to be more considerate to Jane's feelings.

"Thor!" Darcy happily chirped after she was done chastising her boyfriend and then looked behind him to see.... "Loki?"

"Please, contain your excitement; It's overwhelming."

"Sorry, its just Erik is going to flip when he knows you're here." She said as she lowered her voice to a whisper, "Jane, did you think about this?"

"It apparently was decided by Odin." Jane said while crossing her arms before muttering something that sounded a lot like, "Even on Earth he has no regard for me." But no one heard because suddenly Erik walked in.

"Why am I going to flip?" Erik asked before his eyes immediately fell upon Loki. He emitted a strange animalistic sound, something between growling and cursing and grumbled, "I'm going to open the wine." before walking out and leaving the room in a moment of awkward silence.

"Ah, Thanksgiving!" Ian tried breaking the ice as he mockingly clutching his chest in emotion, "Otherwise known as the day of unbearable smalltalk and awkward situations."

"It's not that bad." Jane said reappearing and washing off her hands with a towel, "This holiday is meant to be about something far greater than that."

"And what would that be?" Loki asked, even though he sounded indifferent, he actually was interested in knowing.

Jane turned to Thor to explain, she had told him earlier and was surprised that he had not told Loki before arriving.

"Umm, well." Thor tried to remember how Jane had explained it months ago, but he honestly hadn't been listening very well and the meaning slipped his mind. He really just used this holiday as an excuse to come to Midgard to see her. "The pilgrims sacrificed a meal of thanksgiving to the gods when they arrive safely to land?"

Erik snorted from the kitchen and Jane shook her head in disappointment.

"I got this, Thor." Darcy said as she patted his shoulder, as if encouraging him despite his failed attempt. "Simply put: it's a day where we stuff our faces and share gossip."

"No, that's not quite right either."Jane said laughing.

"Sounds pretty accurate to me." Erik muttered in agreement.

"It's actually just a day where we acknowledge all things we're thankful for." Jane began, "But historically it's a harvest festival that was first celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621," She couldn't help but add that last bit in.

"And you've been stuffing your faces ever since!" Ian said laughing. " Ha! Get it? Stuffing... Because stuffing..."

Darcy gave her boyfriend a look that pleaded him to stop.

"Never mind." He said quietly and tried to ease the awkwardness with a swig of the lemonade in his glass. It was a bit bitter, but he remembered Darcy's warning glance and he swallowed it quickly while trying to hide his sour expression.
