Leah couldn't believe it. This couldn't be happening to her. She pulled her phone away from her ear for a moment as she struggled to gather her thoughts. His words replayed over and over again in her head like a broken record player. "I'm sorry I can't come to your parents' house for Thanksgiving, management wants me in the studio." Had she heard him correctly? Leah shook her head as she brought the phone back up to her ear.

"Please tell me you're joking." Her voice was borderline desperation.

"I wish I was," Harry's voice came through the phone. "There's always Christmas, right?"

"Maybe, but my parents were looking forward to seeing you." Her phone beeped, signaling she was getting another call. "I'll talk to you later, I've got another call. Love you." Harry said his goodbyes and she hung up before taking the next call. "Hello."

"Leah! Are you getting the turkey now?" her mother's sweet voice boomed.

Leah paused mid-step on the way to her car. She had completely forgotten about the turkey, she had been so hung up on Harry. The brunette contemplated her options; she could either lie and say she did or confess. She was leaning towards the second option since her mother probably already sensed her hesitation.

"Don't be mad but I didn't." Leah confessed as she resumed the walk to her car. "But, I'm on my way right now."

"Leah!" her mother exclaimed, flabbergasted, "good luck finding a turkey. If you can't a ham will do."

"Alright mother," she said as she unlocked her car door and slid in. "I'll do that. Bye, love you."

"Goodbye."

Leah thrown her phone over to the passenger's seat. She closed her car door and put her key into the ignition, starting the car. She backed out the parking spot and drove out of her apartment complex. The silence in the car was suffocating, leaving her to reply her conversation with Harry and have to think up something to tell her parents. They would understand but they would be disappointed which killed Leah to even think about. As much as she wanted to be mad at Harry though, she knew that she couldn't be. It wasn't his fault, even asking him to fly out all the way to the Washington was asking for too much. Like he had said, there would always be Christmas.

She had been so lost in her thoughts that she almost passed the store but turned in just in time. Leah found a parking space quickly before turned off the car. With her phone in hand she exited the car and exposed herself to the autumn chill that hung in the air. She locked her car before she pocketed her keys and walked over to the store - Safeway to be exact - entrance. Her steps hurried as she sped walked inside the building, the warm air hitting her face. The sounds of people talking to one another and cart wheels squeaking against the floor brought a certain joy to her face. Maybe it was due to how warm the store was. Leah grabbed a basket and made her way over to the section where the meats were kept.

As she approached the meat section she noticed more and more people heading towards it. 'Oh no, there probably won't be anything left,' she thought in dismay. Just another thing to add to her list of things gone wrong. When she reached the meat section it was pure chaos. People were shouting over each other, fighting to be heard, two elderly ladies fought over a packaged ham, tugging it back and forth between them. She saw a large man throw a man with a turkey in his hand over his shoulder while his wife snatched the turkey away. Leah visibly gulped as she took a step backwards. This was something she did not want to get in the middle of; but, it seemed as though she had no choice in the matter. Her eyes racked over the fighting crowd, trying to locate a lonely turkey or ham. There! Right in the middle of the fighting a ham laid, untouched by anyone.
