Chapter 1

"Oi brat what are you doing standing there? Did you not hear me when I instructed you to sweep this floor."

"Yes..Yes, I.. sorry Corporal ...I-" Eren stammered, fondling with a broom as his captain continued to speak harsh profanities about those who don't follow his orders. Eyes downcast trying to avoid the ones that were on the prowl form his commander. 

"I don't care what you think, I said I wanted it done! Is it to much to ask for one thing to be done right today?" Levi runs his fingers through his hair looking away flustered.

"Corporal. I..-"

"You what?" He turned back to Eren a mix of rage and hurt spreading across his face, clearly upset about more then a somewhat dirty floor.

"I only wanted to say I'm sorry, about you squad...hanji told me-"

"That's enough chit chat." Levi turns his back to Eren and begins to walk away briskly.  "Get back to work." He adds before slamming the door to his room.

"Why do you spend so much of your time doing things for him Eren? It's not like he actually has any respect for you." Armin sighed as he continued to brush the horses main while Eren swept the stall.

"He's just going through a lot right now, and I think that it would be best if someone step up and try to.. what's the word? Put up with him, for a while at least. I'm just doing my orders, as are you."

"But does putting up with him mean waking up at practically the crack of dawn to do chores, then going to testing until late? It's been a month since you've done anything but chores and actually done something but cater to the tiniest of needs. You must know of something that's happing with him Don't you ever talk? And why wouldn't he get someone else to help you? If you ask me this is an inhumane amount of work you have been putting in."

"We don't have much time for conversation while I'm scrubbing entire corridoors with one rag Armin and I couldn't imagine anything worse then another scolding form him." Eren ponders his friends question for a bit, but hearing the all to familiar crunch of boots behind him he begins to briskly walk toward the other stall until,

"Eren."

"Yes?"

"Go to your room and grab something warm. Armin!" He suddnly snapped turning his head towards him.

"Yes sir?"

"Saddle two horses and be quick about it." With that Levi began to walk out of the stable and Eren, curious, followed.

"Um, Corporal sir, I was just wondering.."

"Did I or did I not just give you and order?"

"You did sir."

"The follow it." Levi walked toward Haji's office and looked back at Eren as if to make sure he was going to do as told.

Eren took of sprinting to his room and Levi just smiled.

"Oh good you're here." Hanji  screeched pulling  Levi into her make shift workspace/tent. "I wanted to go over some of Eren's tests with you."

"Actually I was just about to go out to prep him for his next test if that's all right with you." He said looking bored.

"Well that's not up to me really, now is it." Hanji looked right onto him giving him a devilish grin.

Eren walks into the tent empty handed and flushed with embarrassment. "Corporal I..um"

"Spit it out brat I don't have all day." Levi sighs turning to him.

"It appears all my clothes are in the wash." Eren gives a weak smile, blushing lightly.

"It appears or they are?"

"Well.."

Once again Levi sighs and Hanji giggles. "Very well, come with me."

"Have fun you two." Hanji calls out as the two walk away waving and making kissing noises.

"Honestly Eren have I taught you nothing?" His voice was harsh and gave off firm vibrations of no nonsense to those around him. 

"I'm so sorry Sir." He hangs his head as they finish their walk to headquarters.

When the reach the inside of Levi's room, Levi walks over to his dresser and pulls out a perfectly pressed and folded cape handing it to a still flustered Eren, who still refused to make eye contact. Still embarrassed about even trying to make conversation earlier. 

"Oi brat what's wrong?"

"I'm not sure Sir." He managed after a minute or two. A thick haze of confusion loomed over the two.

"Come." Levi said taking the cape from his hands and opining it up.

Slowly he draped the material over the younger boys shoulders and brought his face un by the tip of his chin. "We must go." He said and Eren nodded.
