What Does My Future Hold?

"What does my future hold?"

A question tattooed in my mind in bold.

Will I have a fancy job?

Or a little boy named Rob?

Will I die in a courageous fight?

Or while I'm in deep slumber at night?

I want to make mistakes and let them teach me,

Because these lessons will dictate who in the future I'll be.

The choices of now are the consequences for later.

I cross my finger and hope they won't change me into someone bitter; a hater.

Under the judging eyes of society and the strong opinions of friends and mother,

I never followed my vision, I mean, why would I even bother?

My future in my mind is so blurry with no goal and no path.

I'm sleepwalking through life, daydreaming like I'm sitting in a History class.

I may have no goals but my dreams are as apparent as day.

"I thought they were the same thing," I'd imagine you'd say.

I'd be honest and tell you that I thought so too, my friend,

And they are indeed until your dreams go against every trend.

"An engineer, a doctor or a business man,

Think for your future, put a bullet proof plan!"

What about my passion and love?

Why are people only impressed by the jobs above?

What about a pink bakery or a small coffee shop?

What about a library around the corner with books that fill the room till the top?

Why aren't these looked up on?

These are people who really "followed their dreams" and didn't only put it in a song.

These are who don't gain much,

and for their choices they are called crazy.

But let me tell you something about that bunch,

Unlike you, their future isn't hazy.

They had the courage to go against the flow.

Do I have this strength? I really don't know.
