Thanksgiving, a time when all your family comes together under one roof to eat a feast. In our household we have to dress in a formal dress, so I put on my suit and make sure everything is covered especially my arms. I look down and make everything is perfect. All I want is too make them proud.

I walk downstairs and see my parents all dress in black and my sister in a puffy pink dress. They looked me over, circling me like a shark, making me feel small. They straighten my tie and tuck in my shirt more. They look me over once more and stay back. Mom raised one eyebrow and frowned. Dad rolled his eyes and went to check the turkey.

"Well this is as good as it is going be," mom said blankly,"Let us hope that nobody judges us on this."

They do not call me by name no more. They call me it or this, but in front of family they call me by name. I am not allowed to eat anything, not even breakfast, until the whole house is clean. Which takes hours because our house is a pigsty. I make sure everything is completely spotless from our room to the knick-knack mom buys every year.

After over four hours of folding laundry and cleaning up messes, the house was finally clean, and my parents approve. Only I still could not eat because in about fifteen minutes, my family is coming over. It is rule that they eat first and I eat what is left. I set the dinner table and bring out all the appetizers first. Suddenly I heard a knock at the door.

"Hey it, will you open the door!" dad yells from the living room.

"Yes, father," I said back quietly.

I make sure that everything is perfect and before I answer the door. My grandparents arrive first. They are the nicest people you could ever met, they show you love and affection. They are actually proud of me.

"Hey Shawnie," she said kissing my cheek,"How have you been?"

"J-Just perfect," I said looking back at my parents,"C-Come in, sit d-down."

I took their coats and put them on the coat rack. While everyone was enjoying themselves, I was serving everyone else. I felt my mom and dad staring me down, just waiting to make a mistake. The rest of my family came over, aunts and uncle flooded our house with hugs and kisses. I was happy that everyone had a smile on their face.

"Hey Shawnie," a voice said from behind.

It was grandma, with a worried look on her face. I felt my arms start to itch, my body was about to go into that state of mind again. She looked me over, trying to see what is wrong. I felt her hands on my ribs, then a finger go down my spine. She stood in front of me and look like she was frightened by me.

"Shawn, when is the last time you have eaten?" She asked calmly.

"T-This morning," I said quietly.

Lies, I haven't eaten in over a mouth. My parents do not allow me to eat large portions because they say it will make me look imperfect. I do not want to disappoint them even more. I was very weak and tired, but I have to look perfect.

"Shawn, come with me," she commanded.

"Y-Yes grandma," I said worried.

I followed her upstairs to my room. She closes the door and locks it. She took off my jacket and threw it on my bed. I look down and start playing with my fingers, my boney fingers. She takes my hands and looks them over. She looks up at me with tears in her eyes.

"Shawn, c-can you please take off your s-shirt?" She asked shakily.

I shook my head no, because she is going to find out something worst. I went to go leave when my stomach start to growl for the fifth time tonight. Grandma will walk up to me and put a little chocolate Kiss in my hand. The red tin-paper made me oddly enough happy.

"T-Thank you," I said hugging her.

"I am so proud of you, Shawn," she whispered,"You make me so happy."

I gasp and hugged her tighter. She rubs my back and pulls my thin frame closer. I actually felt alive, filled with joy, and actually loved. She slowly let go of me and smiled.

"Shawn," she said.

"Yeah," I answered.

"Shawn!" I heard someone yelled.

I woke up and I was sleeping in my seat. My dad was calling while hitting me the back of my head with a newspaper to wake up. He was telling me to clean up everything while everyone else goes to sleep. After he leaves, I stand up and start cleaning up everything. The table, the living room, and the kitchen. I was humming a church song quietly so my parents will not yell at me. Then I started whispering the words.

"Scared waters, holy ocean," I sang,"Gently water washing over me."

I then see something that caught my eye. It was something wrapped in red tin paper. It was a little Kiss. I opened it and a little chocolate surprise was inside and a little note was inside. I am so proud of you, Shawn. You make me so happy. ~Grandma. I smiled at that and eat the little treat and stuff the note in my pocket.

I went back to cleaning, feeling my arms ache and my back beginning to break. I still feel these awful feeling in my stomach that someone is still here. That someone know the dirty little secret that everyone hides. This secret that can end me up in a foster home and my parents in jail.

If you enter through the door, you will see a "perfect" family. All of them "love" each other and have the "perfect"  attitude, but once your done "playing" with us you will see the horrors that lie within these walls.
