Chapter 12

Simon’s POV

I pulled into the driveway in front of my house. I have called Eliza twice since I left work and still no answer. I am really starting to get worried. She isn’t the type to commit suicide or self-harm, but… her mother did just pass. It’s been hard. I run up the front steps to find the door locked. I fumble the keys in my hand before finally unlocking the door.

“Eliza?” I called as I ran inside. No answer.

“Eliza?” I called again, running into the kitchen.

“Eliza!” I run up the staircase and check the two bathrooms; I didn’t bother checking the two downstairs because we rarely use those. I run into my room, I doubt she would be in here. When she was little, I would come home from work to find her and Paige all wrapped in my bed asleep. Usually there would be a Disney movie on display on my TV.  I spin on my heel and start down the hall towards Eliza’s room. I stop short; I notice something different about the hallway. I turn slightly to see a door, slightly cracked open. I hadn’t noticed that I was crying until a tear landed on my hand. I wiped away the tears and ever so slowly made my way towards the door. I poked my head in before walking all the way in. Memories flooded my brain. I started to sob, loudly. I hated myself for being so weak and useless. Eliza was gone, she is probably in more pain then I am! I mean for Christ sakes, the girl lost her mother! The only parent she ever had!

I remember the day; Paige called me and told me Austin had come back. Austin was her Ex-husband. He had left her when he found out she was pregnant with a girl. She said they were going to try to ‘work it out’ and such. I was so mad at her for being so blind and stupid! I mean, he left her once what made her think he wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t talk to her again until she had Eliza, two weeks later. I was at the hospital thirty minutes after I got the news. Austin saw Eliza, and right then wanted Paige to put her up for adoption. Saying ‘they weren’t ready for a child’ and ‘they should just wait, and have a boy’ Paige was furious. She made everyone leave the room, including me. Austin stayed with her and you could hear them yelling from the lobby. That night Austin left and never returned. Paige didn’t seem sad, she actually seemed better. I walked into the room and got to hold Eliza for the first time.

“You think mom and dad would be pleased?” Paige asked me staring at the beautiful baby girl in my arms.

“I think they would be overjoyed, she is really beautiful, Paige” She smiled wide.

“The only problem is, she looks like Austin”

“She has time to grow out of that.”

I sobbed even more as I looked at the photo book in my hand. I noticed one was missing. I also noticed a bobby-pin which means Eliza has been in here recently. I glide into her room to see a hot pink photo book sitting on her desk. The beautifully stitched letters read,

Eliza Grace Williams

3/24/96

I opened the book to see a letter from Paige to Eliza.

Eliza,

If you are reading this, it’s either because you’re snooping around in my room, or I am gone. If it’s the first one… get out! If it’s the second one, just know I love you very much! You are my pride and joy! And I am so sad that I won’t get to see how beautiful you look on your wedding day! This book is full of pictures, of you, of me. It’s full of memories. All good. So use this to remember the good memories and forget about the bad. Remember all the good times we had together. I love you with all my heart. Don’t be sad, be happy. I am in a better place now.

                                                                                                    Love, Your Mother.

I slammed the book shut. I cannot do this right now. I am not strong enough. I stomped out the room and called Eliza again. No answer. I was seriously getting ticked. I dialed the only other number I could think of at the moment…. Liam.

After two rings and laughing Liam finally picked up.

“Hello?” He asked, after finishing laughing

“Liam! Is Eliza with you? Why isn’t she picking up her phone? Is she safe? Has she done anything stupid? Where the heck are you guys?” I yelled at the poor boy, which was probably holding the phone away from his ear.

“Uncle Si! It’s all okay! Eliza is fine! She is busy that’s why she isn’t picking up! And we are with Olivia; Eliza is going to be our new background dancer!”

“Excuse me?”  I asked, slightly annoyed.

“Yea! Sadie got into an accident so Olivia asked Eliza if she wanted to! She truly is amazing! She has already learned like three dances! She is such a fast learner!” Liam continued to ramble on and on about how ‘amazing’ and ‘bloody brilliant’ Eliza was. I know she is a great dancer but, I am not sure if I want her up on that stage. Especially after all of this… Maybe I should make her wait awhile. I will talk to her when she gets home.

Eliza’s POV

I have learned three new dances and I have practice every day this week! This should keep me busy enough to not think about mom. At least for a while.

“Hey Eliza, come here I want to introduce to the rest of the dancers!” Ashton called. I have learned a lot about these girls since we have started dancing. I learned that Ashton is extremely clumsy and used to be a model. But she preferred dance, she could eat whatever she wanted and dance it all off at practice. Ragan is extremely sporty and wants to be a professional college softball coach in America.

I walk over to Ashton, the other girls arrived around an hour ago. Apparently Olivia had a few of the girls meet early to show me some of the dances so I wouldn’t be totally lost.

“Eliza, meet Hayley and Jennifer.” I smiled at the two girls.

“Hello.” I stick out my hand for them to shake.

“Hi! I am Hayley!” The red head smiles wide. She has been smiling the whole time she has been here. Ashton said she is one of those people who tries to make the best of every situation and always tries to remain happy. No matter what. I wonder if she would teach me to be like that.

Hayley had pale skin with just a very small tan almost unnoticeable; she had red hair that stopped right under her shoulders. She had big blue eyes and was tall and fit. Jennifer was almost as dark as Zayn and had dark brown hair with the smallest tent of red; she had dark brown eyes and was slightly shorter than the rest of the girls, but just as lean.

“Hi, I am Eliza.” I reply to the overly happy girl

Her smile grows wider and her eyes start to sparkle.

“Ashton! Ragan! Eliza should go with us shopping next week! We could make it a girl’s day! We could get to know her better and we could all end up best friends! Oh doesn’t that sound exciting!!”  I laugh at her hyperness

“Of course I would love to come!” I respond before Ashton or Ragan has a chance to. Jennifer is Olivia’s ‘assistant’  so she had to go take care of the song arrangement. I couldn’t help but notice two other girls staring at me. Well I couldn’t really tell if they were staring at me or Ashton, Ragan or Hayley. These girls were beautiful so I understand completely if those girls were envious. They had scowls of their faces and if looks could kill. I have a feeling we would all be dead.

“Ok girls! I want everyone to meet Eliza! She will be taking Sadie’s place. Now everyone into your positions! We have lots of work to do!”  Olivia clapped her hands and everyone scrambled into their spots. God please don’t let me mess up!
