Two snaps echoed sharply through my system making my heart rocket as I bolted upright, eyes blurring from the surge of dizziness I caught from still being half asleep. The air fogged up in front of me from my hyper breathing patterns, my heart thrusting itself back and forth in my chest like an erratic clock.
The light of the morning reflected off the frost that had settled all around the first few centimetres of ground. Like glitter had just popped everywhere, nature having its own silent rave. My eyes dragged around to where I heard the snapping, casting my glance away from the glittery morning and toward a feeling if damp fear.
Yellow.
A bright dangerous colour in nature, the warning of a bee, a lion, lightning... The eyes of a stranger. Staying still, contact with the luminous orbs of sunshine linked like a crazy magnetism.
This wolf was not of my kind, this one was full blooded wild rogue. Rarely do I come across a pair of eyes so calm amongst my travels, this wild pair were host to a dangerous creature.
I stepped back, brushing against Maverick, who I had lost all connections with, he was asleep, out of it, barely even breathing. In fact I was relieved, if he knew of our guests presence he would not be welcoming, he'd be causing a riot.
How he'd manage it I don't understand.
The yellow eyes I'd encountered were only looking at me, they held no interest, they knew that we were similar yet not identical, they held wonder of all things around them, curiosity. The curiosity lingered on me longer than I first imagined it would and then shifted to Maverick. I came to notice a humming in my head. Like that of an engine purr, I lowered my defences.
'Ava? Ava please answer me. '
