Riverside Rogues
Chapter 1
Flames licked and spat at the air, while me and my brother sat the opposite side of the fire to the two we'd spent the past week of winter with. My brother, Maluke, didn't seem to like them, while I was rather fond of the pair who had managed to get us out of trouble from a pack that had claimed we were too close to their property. Which resulted in Maluke trying to argue his way out of it, while I, as the eyes, had watched the five around us for any signs of impatience or attack.
We were chased out eventually, and I found Oscar and Asher, sniffing around a nearby lake. Since it was iced over, they were stupidly trying to walk across it. I thought they were just young, when really they're much older than me. Oscars twenty, and Ash ( as he likes to be called ) is twenty four, me and my brother are seventeen and twenty two, but much more mature than the pair.
We could communicate very easily between us, as rogues don't close off their communications like packs do, I don't really see the benefit of doing so, it seemed elitist. However that's how they are. They told us they'd only recently been kicked from their pack, according to them, it was because they were mates and were shunned because of it.
Otherwise I scowled at the mention, that's rather disgusting. Ditching people from the pack because of their chosen mates, because if it's that easy to get kicked from a pack, why aren't there more rogues? I suspect this is another add on to why my brother doesn't like it. He's a bit homophobic, due to lack of understanding and his more attuned approach to our catholic upbringing, probably self conscious around them too. Those too are very friendly about how attractive they find him.
Despite it, we had to save their tails, before another pack had the nerve to complain for us using 'their' river. Which I think is dumb, since when do you claim ownership of a river, it's a river. Once again, my plan to relocate rogues to group up from last year, bounces to memory , those few weeks were exhausting as you could imagine.
The people who had turned up to my little meeting, didn't seem very respectful to females, meaning me. One had the balls to try and get me to submit. They pinned me down when I wouldn't, thankfully my brother only broke one of his legs. The other wolves were offended by that attack, since from the power emanating from the guy we attacked, he was possibly a higher ranking outcast, so were we but, we decided leaving was the better option.
That's how we ended up here in the long run. Around campfires, after travelling for six days at the least, I don't really count though, I just hope the winter goes by quickly this year. Last year was awful, the days dragged painfully, so we ran it off.
We've been trading stories since. Which is usually what you do around the fire, that and sing songs; roast marshmallows and such. Which is when I eventually realised that I loved the pair and they were cute, and fun, joking the whole of the journey and acting like we were already friends. I found it amusing that they were small compared to their wolves, about six foot and six foot two, sort of height. Maluke was seven inches taller than them. I was a lot shorter than all of them, I guess around five six.
Oscar had naturally straight and swooped golden blond hair and opaque red-brown eyes, with a pale skin tone, the opposite of Asher. Asher was with olive skin and a green blue eyes, which only intensified in colour beneath his black hair, which shaded half his face.My brother was like me, we have black hair, and softer features than most, he says I look cute but I don't believe him. It's annoying, his eyes are amazing, beautiful shiny grey, like platinum, they shine like any precious metal. I hate my eyes . My left eye's just black, pure, night. except the pupil, a dot of white. The other is just a pupil and black iris, plain, and it all clashes with my hair. I scare everything, I look like a Halloween costume.
