Glimmers POV:
The shirt i was forced to wear was scratchy and unpleasant to my delicate skin, it was even leaving a red mark for crying out loud! At least these shirts Four gave us were only needed until we had gotten proper clothes; he said we would be getting them later. Speaking of Four, where was he taking us? I had twisted my ankle a wee bit jumping off the train so it sort of hurt me to walk, and I hadn't actually looked around yet, but the top of a building didn't seem like a compound to me.
Apparently my confusion didn't matter because Four said something un-intelligible, seemingly for his own benefit and jumped of the edge of the building. "What did he say?" i asked running to the edge. Clove narrowed her eyes to me. "He said we would land in a net at the bottom, who wants to go first?" No one responded, everyone wanting someone else to go first. Slowly Finnick stepped forward. "Its my job to take care of you guys." He smiled nervously before stepping of the edge quickly. Next Katniss and Peeta held hands tightly then jumped off. I glanced at Marvel he was jumping off now, he looked nervous.
"Wait Marvel!" I called. He quickly turned around with a released look on his face. Was that because I stopped him from jumping? "ill see you down there Glim." Marvel gulped. "No." i insisted, "I'm coming with you." I closed my eyes and jumped off with a quick squeeze of his hand.
With the two of us jumping now, that leaves Cato, Clove, Rue, Thresh and Finch all sitting up there pondering when to jump.
Catos POV:
I couldn't jump. It sounds ridiculous but i cant stand heights, the thought makes me want to curl up into a ball and whimper like a lost puppy.. Thresh and Rue jumped next, the little girl sat on his back as he jumped. I looked at the three of us standing there, just Clove, Finch and I. I made an ahem sound in the back of my throat, the red headed girl raised her eyebrows but then thankfully jumped of the edge without a word.
I turned to Clove. "I cant do this." I said quietly.
"I know." she answered simply. "That's why i waited."
Clove didn't respond with any emotion in her tone, more like a fact. "I knew that you wouldn't be able to make the jump, so I stayed." It was embarrassing showing weaknesses like this. So open, so vunerable. But I trust clove, she's been my best friend for years now. But still the thought that she stayed to make sure I made it down caused a fluttery feeling in the pit of my stomach. "Ill go with you." she reported. Her voice still void of any emotion. I looked over at her, her grey eyes were trained on me carefully. She was biting her lip in a nervous way, but she still looked strikingly confident. I knew she would have jumped before Finnick if she knew that i would have gone too. It was quite obvious if you had known her for as long as i had. shes never been the girl to hide behind someone else, she was the one standing up for herself. Taking charge of her life.
"Lets go than." I say gruffly, picking up on her monotone voice. I step onto the ledge and peer over. "you sure your ready?" she inquired, letting the tiniest piece of care creep into her voice causing a small smile to play onto my face. "I'm sure. I have to overcome my fear someway don't I?" At this she laughs. Cloves laughter is a rare thing to most people, except for me.
The first time I heard her laugh was back when we were only thirteen. We were sitting on a roof near the outskirts of town. Few people dared come out this far from the centre of town for there was a rumour around that there was a mad man who had gone completely haywire after his wife had been executed. Although the mighty Cato and Clove could defeat anything, so we had no problem with straying into the neighbourhood. As we sat on the roof we talked about mindless things, until we started on about what would happen if we won the games, i told her i would marry the most beautiful girl in the district and at that she laughed. Her laugh wasn't as most would guess. It was actually a light angelic thing, like bells tinkling in the breeze. "Good luck with that." she had told me. Little did she realise, it was her i was thinking of.
