The Otherside— Red Hot Chili Peppers
»»»»I walk back home slowly, almost regretting going back. It was a battle between asshole fuckboys and the loneliness of an empty house.
When I reach the house, I noticed a unfamiliar black car. My eyebrows furrow in confusion and my hear speeds up with fear. I quietly duck behind the back wall, trying to see who was in the car.
There's two men in the car, one much older than the other. My heart drops into my stomach when I realize who they are.
The younger boy turns, pointing to me. I glare darkly, not even wanting to be this near to them.
They open the doors, smiling at me, but I don't return the favour.
"Ashl–"
"Oi! Get the fuck out of here, I thought I said I never want you in my life!" I spat.
He stops dead in his tracks, but my brother doesn't stop. Tyler runs over, holding me tightly. I'm shocked by the action, pushing him off almost instantly.
Tyler frowns at me, almost making me feel bad.
"Please, Ashlyn. Hear me out," my father says calmly.
I shake my head. "Ten years. Ten fucking years, and I never get so much as a late happy birthday. You have never once taken interest in you're only daughter, or so I assume. But now you're expecting me to talk to me after you left my mother a hopeless alcoholic?"
Guilt is written all over his face, but I have no remorse whatsoever. I turn, storming away from my father and brother. "I'm here because of your mum," He calls back.
A pain shoots through my heart and lungs, making it almost impossible for me to breathe. I can feel a lump forming in my throat that almost makes me choke on a sob. My knees feel like they're going to give out. Tyler runs over to keep me up as I begin to fall. I hold onto my brother as sadness and sickness fills my body.
"W– what happened to 'er?" I whispered, though I doubted father could hear my voice; I hardly heard my voice. Tyler's grip tightens on my clothes. He knows what's happened. I know he knows what happened. I ask again, somehow getting my voice to become louder. Neither of them answer.
I don't even know why I ask them when I already have it all figured out. Maybe I just need closure for my own assumptions. "Just tell me!" I scream.
"Ashlyn..." Tyler whispers as I clutch at his jacket. I feel the tears fall down my cheek.
I begin to grow angry at my father. If he hadn't left, my mother would still be happy. If he hadn't cheated, I wouldn't have to worry about my mother at every waking moment. If he had at least tried to keep a relationship, she wouldn't be dead now. "I have the right to know! She was my mother, I was the only one there for her! So tell me you scumbag!"
"She's dead! Is that what you want to hear, brat? Her body went into shock at the rehab center, she died last night." Father snapped. "You happy now, daughter?"
I turned my head away from him, sinking back into Tyler's arm. My breathing slows down as I try to get myself calm again. "Go, Tyler." I whisper, pushing him away.
"Well, fuck you. I don't want you in my life anymore." I growl, walking to the door.
"Ashlyn–"
"Get away from my house! I don't want you here! I never wanna see you!" I scream through my teeth, slamming the front door shut.
Once I started crying, I couldn't stop.
