Robin was very silent for the next few days, in all truth be told...he was just too scared to disobey the cruel king again. After the treatment he'd had prior, he knew that his punishment would not be worth the hassle. What the boy also had found was that, if he'd been good, the king would be in better spirits.

Less beating for him.

Laying in the bed next to the male who was fast asleep, the boy had to admit, he did look pretty peaceful, even with that mask over his face. It crossed his mind several times why the mask never left his feature, but then again. Robin was too scared to do much of anything, let alone ask to see the face of the man.

"Keep on staring at me, and I'll wonder if that mouth is good for other things than sucking."

Came the groggy reply of the king, this made the boy bolt up straight and face away immidiately . His face gone as red as the bird that he'd been nicknamed from, upon seeing this reaction. Slade began to chuckle as he sat up, the covers exposing his naked and muscular chest. Scars were scattered over his body, this caught Robin's attention .

"... You have a lot of scars."

He blurted out and then held his mouth, his eyes scrunched shut . Fear in place once again but, nothing came...there was no pain, no degrading, nothing at all , just the sound of light breathing. Robin turned to see Slade looking at him with light curiousity.

"I want to make you a deal"

The man said suddenly, shocking the boy silly. He'd not heard of the king being kind or even complacent. So he decided to go with the pace that it was going at. Robin nodded and sat with his knees to his chin.

"You want to go out from this room, like a free bird, don't you boy?"

Slade asked as he leaned closer to the teenager and awaited on his answer, to which it was an eager nod of the head. This caused another chuckle to escape the mans lips. Standing up, not caring that his ass was on full view to the teenaged boy, by the time they'd be done, the child would see more of him than imagined. He turned to Robin and gave a serious look.

"I want to hear your song"

Slade commanded , Robin just sat there with a very confused look on his face. Song? What song, Robin didn't sing, not on demand at least. Not wanting to annoy the man, he sang but this was obviously not the sound that the man had wanted as he recieved a slap on the cheek. Robin began to shake and shiver in terror.

"Not that one, the one you sang the other day boy."

Slade demanded once again. Robin tried to think of the song but the memory was escaping him, he just couldn't think with that man staring at him relentlessly as he was. The boy took a gulp and tried again , still failing to appease the mans happiness. Slade got up and walked to the door with his face in a grimace.

"Until you learn that song by heart, you can consider this room you cage, little bird."

He snapped and slammed the door, leaving Robin to soil himself again. What Robin never saw was the red headed male at the window, a soft tap had almost caused a heart attack in the boy. His blue eyes were wide as saucers as he sat there trembling. With timid steps, he walked to the window and opened it.

"Don't be scared. I've come to take you from this hell"

The other male said as he raised his arms to show that he'd had no weapon or means of attacking at all . Robin nodded and walked to the balcony , still very scared of this man and what he could be planning. Sensing the distrust, the male removed his mask to reveal a young teen like himself.

"Please, let me help you."

He begged as he held a hand out, Robin was about to take it when the door opened and in came Slade as angry as ever. In this light, he looked like a very pissed off T. rex ready to kill at any moment. Rushing over, he jerked the teenaged boy away and called the guard . The red headed male just glared and jumped away from the castle and to his hide out. Many people rushed up to him with excited looks but he never returned them. That boy would be saved, he would assure that.

For hours the boy lay on his bed and seethed to himself for not saving him, but he swore he'd do it.

"Or my names not Jason Todd"

Robin had never felt so petrified in all of his 13 years of being alive. The silence was so thick that a knife could have punctured it several times. His throat was very dry from the amount of dread that he felt. Slade hadn't uttered a word since the other males attempt to kidnap him.

"I will not hurt you, I will not assault you....if you sing...that song to me. "

Slade stared solemnly at him with no emotion , just trying to hold his urge to devour the boy whole , which was a very hard feat for him not to do. But he was trying very hard to at least put up a fight.

"Child, I don't wish to be a monster to you. Obey me and you'll be protected, this isn't hard. Is it?"

Asked the male to the terrified teenager, Robin shook his head in a no fashion and closed his eyes . He felt his body calm as he opened his mouth and out came the song that his mother taught him. The same one that Slade had heard that night , it made all his anger fade away and replaced it with calmness.

This continued for over half an hour before the boy stopped and looked at Slade , who was staring in awe and amazement at him, how such a young boy could have this voice inside of him. Much like a small song bird first finding his voice. It was amazing .

"That's, the song I've waited on"

Slade said as he stood up and then walked to the balcony. He turned to Robin and stared at him for a long while as he raised his hands to his mask slowly. The boy was feeling both excited and terrified at the same time. It scared him that such a small thing was causing him to feel nervous.

"You stated before that you'd wondered of my looks. You sang a song, so I can offer you some peace of mind, I'm not a monster, as much as I act it. I am a human man, such as you are."

Stated the king as he removed his mask from his face, this left the boy staring at the kings white beard and grey eyes. He wasn't a monster, he wasn't a demon, he was a man under that mask...why did demons look so right...for being so very wrong. It was a mystery.

"Y-You look, amazing, your highness"

Said Robin in flattery. This made no difference to Slade as he walked over and placed the mask on the desk. Yawning lightly, the king stared to Robin and then, with his own lips. He smiled at him.

"I'll hope, you continue to sing for me, my lovely song bird."

The night drew nearer now, donning the cape and the mask with pride. Batman walked the street of the village and patrolled for any sign of his son. But not a sight was seen, only the tired faces of other villagers.

He was so busy looking that he failed to watch where he walked and banged into someone. The large jester grinned as he dusted himself off.

"I've seen bats, and I've seen men, but I've never seen a batman before hahahaha "

He guffawed at the sight before him, batman just walked away cursing under his breath at the insane looking clown. What an odd way for a jester to act, not child like at all it was. The jester on the other hand grinned even wider.

"Seems I found a new play mate, I can't wait....to put a smile on that face!"

The jester danced away and vanished into the crowd of people.
