A Broken Heart, Soon Mended

Barry was still heartbroken by his break-up with Marci so he went to where the second part of the date was gonna be held,Shelby's backyard. He waited for the shooting star that was gonna show at eleven o'clock at night. Realizing the star wasn't going to hit for another thirty minutes,he waited and waited. It was about fifteen minutes till the star was gonna be there when Shelby opened her back door and rubbed her eyes sleepily. "What are you doing here Barry?" She said while trying to put her hair in a ponytail. "Marci broke up with me,"Barry said sadly with tears in his eyes. "Oh my gosh Barry, I'm so sorry,"Shelby said while hugging her friend. "It's not your fault it's mine.Can you sit and talk with me for a little bit?"Barry said quietly, embarrassed of how he wanted to be comforted. "Barry none of this is your fault, just look how much you wanted to be with her,"she said while showing him his effort that he put into the date."You're a great guy and if she can't see that then she doesn't deserve you and of course, I'll sit here and talk to you."She said with guilt in how her friend's eyes twinkled because of the tears in his eyes. "Thanks Shelbs," he said calling her the childhood nickname he gave her in third grade.Still quite sleepy Shelby laid her head on Barry's shoulder and quickly fell asleep.Barry smiled as he heard the blonde girl he had been friends with since third grade quietly snoring.He then kissed the top of her head and just enjoyed her company and her kindness and politeness she showed toward everyone she met.The shooting star finally showed up and Shelby was awaken by it's brightness. "Barry it's so beautiful,"Shelby said excitedly never seeing anything like it before. "Yeah, you really are."Barry said quietly before snapping out of his trance. "What did you say," Shelby quickly stated feeling bad for not hearing Barry. "Never mind, so is this your first time seeing a shooting star?" Barry questioned her after seeing the amazement in her eyes. "Yes, but I wish I had seen one sooner." She said appreciating Barry's sudden compassion towards her. "Well I should start cleaning up all this,"Said Barry tired from today's events. "Yeah,well I'm heading up to bed I'll see you in the morning," Shelby announced while watching Barry clean up.She walked towards her house and was about to open her door. "Wait Shelby," Barry said quickly running after her. "What Barry,"Shelby muttered a little startled. "I really appreciate you hanging out with me tonight and comforting me tonight." Barry said sheepishly while putting his hand in his pockets. "You're welcome I really enjoyed it," Shelby said with a big smile.Shelby was about to walk in when Barry pulled her arm making her turn around and slowly going closer to her. He then lightly pressed his lips against her as her hands went to his neck and his hands went to her hair. They soon broke apart and they both smiled. "Goodnight, Barry,"whispered Shelby smiling and closing her door as she went in.
