I clicked three times and sang a high-pitched whistle. Two chattering chirps greeted me in return. I smiled and waited for Celeste. She soon came, speeding around the corner of the reef and nearly crashed into a Turtle. Luna had left about 20 years ago, all grown up. I was sad to see her go, but about a year ago, a little pup showed up in my cave and told me she couldn't find her mother. I know that mothers don't abandon their pups, so if she wasn't with her, something had happened. Anyway, I named the the baby Celeste, meaning sun. Luna was the moon, and Celeste is the sun. She came around the corner carrying a vet packed full of fish, squid, and clams. I had one in my hand as well, but Celeste's was even fuller than mine! They would become our dinners for the whole week.

"Celeste, come follow me. I want to show you something!" I exclaimed (in dolphin, of course.) I was bursting with excitement. I led her to around to the other side of the reef. "Okay, we can't swim around this part, it's a sandbar. We have to jump over. You ready?"

Celeste clicked excitedly. "You go first." she insisted. "I want to see it done by a siren."

I laughed. "you're a dolphin, you'll do it better than me. But okay, if you want." I swam down as deep as I could, and shot up like a frightened fish. The tips of my fingers were first to break the surface. In a flash, I was up in the air, twisting and twirling. My silver tail was blindingly bright. I landed back in the water so smoothly, there was barely a splash. I love jumping. It's exhilarating.

But the rush only lasted a fleeting moment. To get enough momentum was difficult. my tail was so tired by the time I landed, I wanted to just float.

"You ready Celeste?" I called.

"On my way!" She returned, and I could hear her voice brimming with anticipation. Next thing I know, she comes soaring over the sandbar, the sun reflecting off her shimmering back. Without the water to filter out the sun like I was used to, everything was brighter, and hotter. Celeste splashed back into the water. She was still young, and not quite as graceful as Luna was, or as I am. I dove back under the water.

"Hey Mezmy, where are we going?" Celeste asked sweetly.

"You'll see, don't worry. It's worth the swim, I promise." I reassured. " Now come on. We still have a ways to go, and it's already past low tide." I sped ahead, and Celeste had to race to catch up.

When we arrived, Celeste was awestruck at my discovery. I laughed at her expression. I couldn't blame her for being so shocked. She had never seen a shipwreck before, and this one was especially amazing. "Let's go!" I shouted, impatient to explore. I dove through a porthole, and Celeste followed close behind.

We were in a cabin on what was once the lower deck of the ship. In one corner of the room, and old cat was sitting, a wool blanket still drifting over the side. Everything in the cabin was covered in algae, from the candlestick on the desk to the pull-cord on the naked light bulb. The whole place was rotting. I hopped onto the bed. Well, not quite a hop, since we were under water. The human bed wasn't nearly as comfortable as my sea-sponge bed. I rolled around, thinking about what it'd be like to be human - perish the thought. As I roll around, happy as a clam, (me being happy was rare,) I feel something poke into my side everytime I roll to the left of the cot. I allow myself to be lifted off the bed by the ocean trying to push me to the surface. I turn around and dig through the many folds of fabric. I pull out a small, leather-bound book with the letters j-o-u-r-n-a-l pressed onto the front. Opening the book, I notice that most of the pages were either stick together, or the ink was so smeared that I couldn't read them. I spend the next 20 minutes tediously prying them apart. Event then, I only had less than half of the pages separated. Ready to give up, I carefully split apart fo large chunk of papers. This is the last one I'm doing. I'll be here forever if I continue. I decided silently. Anyways, the sun will set soon, and we still have to go all the way home. "I give up." I exclaimed out loud, and threw the book above me. Two things come drifting down. The book, and a letter. I snatched up the letter, naturally curious. How did I not notice this before? Reading the front, I can't believe my eyes.
