Haley's POV
Today is a huge day for me. I'm gonna call Matt. I might wake him up. Oh well
(H=Haley M=Matt)
H: Good morning
M: Morning sunshine
H: I love your morning voice anyways are you coming in today?
M: It's Lizzy's day
H: Oh she didn't tell you that she was willing to switch days this week because I wanted to show you stuff
M: No. But I'll be there in 10
H: I love you
M: Love you too princess
Matt know's I've been working on standing but today we are taking the next step (literally haha)
I press the nurse button and say "Julie, can I put on my clothes by myself today"
She walks in and says "I'm already one step ahead of you. Let's try and get them on before Matt comes"
The last time I tried this we all know what happened. But I'm so much stronger.
I easily slip my big sweater over my tank top. Now the hard part. I slowly slide to the edge of the bed and push off gently. I slip my pants on with ease
"I DID IT JULIE" I say probably a little too loudly
"I know I watched it happen. You are definitely walking today. No more wheelchair for you"
I smile just as Matt walks in
"Matthewwwww guess what I did" I say embracing him
"I put on pants by myself!!"
"I know babe. I heard you from down the hall. I'm so proud."
Matt's POV
"So are you gonna tell me why I switched day's with Liz" I say
"Well, I assumed you would want to be here when I took my first steps" She says smiling
"OF COURSE I WOULD." I say and turn to Julie and ask "Are we actually doing this?"
"Yup and depending on how today goes Haley you might be able to go home."
I turn to look at her and her entire face lights up.
"Don't tell the guys. Just make them all come to the house." Haley says
"Alright let's get to walking. I will be walking out of here today"
Julie brings in a walker. "Let's try with this first. I think you're strong enough to move a bit faster. But let me know if it gets too much.
I'm nervous for Haley but I know she can do this.
She slowly stands up and holds onto the walker.
"Before I do this, Matt go stand at the end of the room. I'm going to walk to you" I obey her and watch as my baby girl takes her first steps in a good couple of months.
*skip to discharge*
All of Haley's nurses and doctors that have been here from the start come into her room.
"Now. I know you all are super busy so I'll make this quick. You all are such wonderful human beings and I wouldn't be here without you all. This place has become a home away from home to me and as much as I totally love it here (note the sarcasm) it's time for me to go home" Haley says proudly
"Get out of here loser" Julie says walking forward to give Haley and I hugs
When Julie gives me a hug I whisper in her ear "Thank you for bringing my Haley back."
She whispers back "She did all the work. I just got her started."
Haley and I walk out of the hospital hand and hand finally.
