As I took my seat a scrambling messy haired blonde boy rushed into the door, just seconds after the last bell rang.
"So nice of you to join us, Mr. Hemmings." said Mrs. Gravelin (pretty much the most strict, old, teacher in our school)
"i-um, well-"

"Just take your seat Lucas." she said pointing at his desks, a few away from mine.

When he went to seat I noticed a red patch on his arm and a slight bruise forming on his cheek. I shrugged it off and got back to my assignment.

-

The bell rung and I stood up grabbing my books and sliding them into my backpack. I haven't used a locker since about the second day of 6th grade. And that was like 5 years ago.

As I approached the door, I bumped into someone and we both fell down. I shot up as soon as I hit the ground and looked at the person I collided with.

"Could you watch it, jeez man. Its not that hard to look in front of you." he looked up at me from the floor and it seemed like he was going to cry and I knew it wasn't like me to lash out like that.

My eyes softened and reached out a hand to help him up. He took it.
"Hey, I'm really sorry, I'm not usually like that. I just have a head ache and-" I looked at him and a tear fell from his eye.
"No, uh, its fine, really. Thank you for apologizing. People don't really do that anymore."

I could see that he didn't want me to see him crying so I decided to wrap it up.

"I'll see you around then." I smiled at him and he cracked a half smile.

As he walked away I saw him start to fast walk to the band room and it confused me because it was lunch period.

I met up with Calum and we sat quietly at our usual table. It grew quite boring and I was wondering what that hemmings guy was doing in the band room.

"Cal." I said trying to get his attention from his phone. He didn't look up, he just kept smiling at his phone.

"Calum." I said again. This time he looked up at me.

"I'm going to do something, I'll see you in Algebra." he nodded and I got up bring my tray with me to the band room.

I was going to open the door until I saw "Lucas" on the floor balling. No lunch. No instrument. All alone.

I set my tray outside the door and opened it slowly. He didn't see me so I sat beside him. I wanted to ask why he was crying but I didn't. I just sat there. Without looking up I heard him mumble

"Why are you here ?"

"Because I was curious."

"Of what?"

"Of you."

He looked up and wiped his eyes.
"What's your name?" he asked me through hiccups.

"Oh, sorry, I'm Winter." I smiled at him and he just kept staring at me. Then another tear fell from his, I just noticed, beautiful blue eyes.

"Can I ask why you're crying? You don't have to tell me, I just thought, maybe I could help." I said.

"I hate myself." he said.

My heart kind of sunk at the words.

"Don't say that." I said.

"Hey, you asked and I told you okay. Why do you even care?"

I wasn't offended, I get that way too. So I lifted my arm to hand him a pieces of paper with my number on it, but he flinched like I would hit him.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. i-i am just sad , I'm sorry." He said covering his face.

I might've teared up right there because what would you have to have done to you to flinch like that at nothing. I reached my hand up and put it on his arm, pulling it down from his face.

"I'm just giving you my number , Lucas , is it? I want you to text me after school, okay? if you don't mind."

"O-oh. Sure and, i-i prefer Luke. Please."

as soon as he said that the bell rung and I stood up giving him a hand and waving good bye.

"Don't forget to text me Luke."

I smiled and left, totally "forgetting" the tray I left outside.

-

"I'm coming over right now okay?" Calum said through the phone.

"Yeah, sure. I'm going to take a shower, so I'll see you when you get here."

He said okay and we hung up. I wasn't taking a shower, I just didn't feel like talking.

I got a text from a number I wasn't familiar with.
