What's a Friend?

I'm sorry this chapter is short but trust me a I get further in they will get longer and more interesting!

Lucy's POV

It's been a week since I saw Natsu. Why does he want to be friends with a freak like me? I rid my head of these thoughts and focus on the board. Quadratic Factorisation. I quickly write down the notes and lose myself in my work. I didn't even notice when the bell rang, marking the end of the day until the teacher waved his hand in front of my face. "S-sorry, sir! I was engrossed in my work."
"Perfectly alright Lucy! You best be going home now, I'll see you next lesson." I nod at his statement I pack my stuff into my slightly battered Dunlop messenger bag and head out of the classroom. At least everyone should be gone by now... I stick my headphones in and I walk across the deserted courtyard when someone blocks my way. I don't even bother looking up, I just wait for the punch, but instead I am enveloped with warm arms. Huh? As I am released I see Natsu Dragneel, just the person I want to avoid right now. "Luce! Haven't seen you for a while!"
"Probably because I have learnt to camouflage myself as much as possible..." I mutter.
"I can see that..." Natsu rubs a finger near my eye, rubbing away some of my disguise and showing a black eye. He gasps. "Who did this to you? Tell me now Luce!"
"It doesn't matter," I say pushing him away. I walk past him but he grabs me from behind.
"You can trust me."
"..." I stare blankly at him
"Look, how about we get a milkshake or something? We can strengthen our friendship!" I was about to push him away again before remembering. He knows about my past. I simply nod and Natsu releases me from his grip. He smiles at me. It momentarily warms me before I snap out of it. I must not become emotionally attached to this boy. He will only let me down, like everyone else...  He grabs my hand and led me down the street. "So, tell me a bit about yourself Luce!" I just continuing walking after him in silence.

After a few minutes' walk we arrive at a place called Mira's Milkshakes and Natsu pulls me into a booth in the corner and orders us a strawberry milkshake but I keep my head down looking at the table. "You can talk to me you know, I am your friend."
I slowly raise my head so I can see the pinkette through my hair. "What's a friend?"

Natsu's POV

I see her raise her head a little and lean in closer to hear if she will talk to me. What she said could only be described as the saddest words I have ever heard. "What's a friend?"
"I-I guess a friend is someone who you can fight with over and over again but you can always make up; they make your problems their problems so you don't have to go through them alone; they're... our chosen family. They're like stars, you don't always see them, but you know they're always there. Just like I'll be for you"
I hear her whisper quietly "I'd rather be alone than around people who pretend to care"
"I'm not pretending. I really care!" I hear her sniffle as she pushes her drink to one side.
"I have to go." She stands up, grabbing her bag and she walks out.
What do I have to do to get her trust? Then it came to me. The best idea any Dragneel has ever come up with.

So what is Natsu's great idea? We'll have to wait and find out!
