Trust issues

If you'll take me as I am, I'll give you my all,

With you by my side, I know I won't fall.

With a sincere heart, I'll give you my love,

Though it is fragile, it flies freely - like a dove.

With a smile on my face, I'll give you my mind,

For that smile is for you, truly one of a kind.

With my hand in yours, I give you my soul,

It is my being, very valuable and bold.

I have given you all the things I hold dear,

I have nothing valuable left to give you, I fear.

Except my trust, honesty, compassion and respect,

In time those, too, will be yours - as the rest.

Do with my heart, mind and soul as you will,

Do not covet them, do not treat them ill.

The moment you do, I promise, I'll take them away,

Along with the rest, no matter what you say.

It will take a lot for me to willingly give them back,

But there's always a way, if you love me, that's fact.

I will forgive your every mistake,

But that doesn't make what you did okay.

I will forever remember how you treated what I held dear,

And with that in mind, I'll be the judge of when you get them back, I fear.

Again, if you love me, you'll find a way,

To get me to trust again, to get me to stay.
