Dark-haired girl

She sat still in the darkness,
Never moving to or fro,
Friendly shadows visit often,
She'd watched them come and go.

Imagination kept her wired,
Her sanity not lost,
Alone and lonely though she felt,
That was the bitter cost.

She waited for a someone,
She needed to be saved,
She didn't want to stay alone
Before she settled in the grave.

If you'd take a minute to wonder,
Approach the dark-haired girl,
She'd let you in on her own little secret,
She'd show you her little world.

She'd tell you she's thankful,
She holds your words so dear,
It's been forever since someone cared
For the dark-haired girl down here.

As curious as you were,
You'd see a light shining bright,
You'd forget about the dark-haired girl
Alone and in the night.

She'd go about her business,
Sadly and without a word,
She'd continue sitting in the darkness,
Surrounded in her world.
