2019 Wedding ~
"And now, by the power vested in me-" Well here we go, the moment we've all been waiting for. Dan rocked backwards on his heels, looking up at the arches in the church ceiling as the vicar wrapped up his epic speech. He glanced up at a beaming Phil, and he couldn't help but smile at him. Dan realised that his eyes had glazed over and he could feel the tears from behind his eyes, but he held them back this time and took a deep breath. No, this moment has to be perfect. I can't ruin it.
But then again, does it have to be perfect? As a rumble of applause sounded from the guests, Dan questioned his reasoning for the 'perfect kiss theory'. Maybe it's because he's just watched too many of those stupid romantic movies, in which an emotional song plays as two people play tongue twister in the rain. Or maybe, it's simply because he's had one too many imperfections. Kisses that never happened, that should of. Kisses that happened, that never should. Some stupid kisses, even angry kisses and of course, drunken kisses. As the guests cheered, he thought of suspense. That's the moment in all the movies, before the kiss, when two people stare deep into each other's eyes, before finally closing the gap between their lips-a moment between two people, a moment of complete perfection, in Dan's' eyes. But Dan's 'perfect kiss theory' is only compulsory for three occasions (it is optional for other occasions, but preferred for every kiss on Dan's part):
1) Wedding Day.
2) First kiss between two people.
3) New Years Eve.
Number 1) needs no explanation as far as Dan is concerned. Number 2) is a 2009 memory, on the very first day that him and Phil met in person. He'd decided that a first kiss had to be perfect no matter what...as theirs wasn't. Dan's nerves had gotten the better of him, his naivety being something that he still chuckles about to this day. If only I'd been braver. Lets just say their first kiss was awkward and quick...like Dan had been. Which brings us on to number 3). After that, even though Dan wouldn't admit it to anyone, let alone himself, it had been his own personal mission to ensure that him and Phil had a perfect second kiss, even though they hadn't even been together. So what better time than New Years Eve?
Dan looked up at Phil one last time before the vicar uttered the words that everyone had been waiting for.
"You may kiss."
