Chapter 1

His lips touched my shoulder, then my neck and up to my ear sending tingling vibrations throughout my entire body with every kiss. I tilted my head back and let his lips continue their exploration, he reached my jaw then down to my breast, I shivered. I felt something hit my head what the hell?!

"Sorry!! Could you pass that?" I vaguely heard a boy shout.

I reluctantly opened my eyes to see what exactly it was that hit me. A white beach volleyball lay in the sand next to my head, FML another dream about him I thought as I tossed the ball at the grateful boy. For months now I've been having these vivid dreams of some guy who's identity is very much unknown to me and it was driving me crazy. I pushed the not so distant memory of the dream to the back of my mind.

Grace laid sprawled out next to Jessica on the cool sand soaking up her last bit of warm Miami sun. Before she knew it it was back to reality, just like that 3 months of summer were to become just a memory.

Ugh back to reality, I kept repeating in my mind, back to the city that never sleeps.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE the city, I live for its bustling streets, its bright lights, its towering high rises - Jay Z said it best, New York is a concrete jungle where dreams are made. I just couldn't stand the people at my school, Pentel High, the distinctly esteemed private school filled with only the wealthiest snobs of Manhattan - and of course there was me, Jessica and the boys. Abandoned by my father as I child I was forced to live with the only other family I had, his fortunately well-off sister and her amazing little daughter.

My iPhone started buzzing distracting me from my thoughts. I rolled my eyes at the caller ID it was my aunt Mary.

"Hello?" I answered the phone already annoyed.

"Grace, I hope you've packed and are prepared for your returning flight tomorrow. I don't need to remind you that you've no time to be scrambling around in the morning." she said straight to the point.

SHIT! I mentally kicked myself in the ass. Of course I hadn't started packing yet I've been dreading the thought of school on Monday so much that I didn't want to leave.

"Yes, aunt Mary I've packed and am ready for my flight tomorrow." I said hoping she wouldn't be able to tell I'm lying.

There was a pause on the other end of the phone and I thought I was busted.

"Good," she finally replied, "as arranged Simon will be picking you up from the airport."

And there was a click indicating that as usual my aunt hung up without a simple 'good-bye'

"The wicked bitch of the west?" Jessica asked rolling her slender sun kissed body over to face me.

I giggled at the nickname Jessica had bestowed upon my aunt. Jessica was one of the first and best friends I'd made at Pentel, she's probably the funniest most over dramatic person I know and I love her to death.

"The one and only," I responded as I lazily pushed my body off the inviting sand, "we gotta go. I forgot to pack."

We arrived at JFK airport at 11:35AM and just as promised Simon was waiting for us with the Mercedes. I felt myself growing annoyed by the flashy vehicle, I wasn't materialistic and I despised flaunting my...well my aunt's wealth.

Simon greeted us as we approached the car bags in hand.

"Ms. Hope Ms. Steele," he nodded, "may I take your bags?"

"No, no we got it." I replied stubbornly as I tugged my bags towards the trunk. I was never spoiled and I promised myself that that wouldn't change when I came to live with Mary.

"Very well." Simon said opening the trunk for us to put our bags in. "Pleasant travels?" he asked us.

"Extraordinarily pleasant thank you for asking Simon." Jessica responded mocking his heavy English accent.

I tried and failed to stifle a laugh, "It was great Simon."

We pulled up to the house after dropping Jessica off at home. I yawned as I got out of the car realizing how exhausted I was from our flight.

Simon, noticing my exhaustion, said "Go ahead Ms. Hope i'll bring your bags to your room." and for once I complied.

As I walked into the monstrous foyer I called for my aunt and cousin, but it seemed as though I was alone with the exception of the 24hr staff my aunt had on duty... I rolled my eyes at the thought.

Another yawn escaped my lips, welp since no ones here might as well take a cat nap I thought as headed up the marble steps to my room.

"Oww what the.." I began to shout as I was startled awake. I opened my eyes to see my cousin Alli plopped on top of my stomach with a toothless smile that I couldn't stay mad at.

"Wake up sleepyhead" screamed the energetic 9 year old.

"I am now you little rascal." i said scooping her up for hug.

Alli was by far my favorite person in the world and she knew it.

"I missed you!" she squealed. "Watcha get me?" she asked excitedly.

"Go check the red bag." I smiled at her, seeing her so happy made all my worries of school almost disappear.

I watched her beaming smile as she pulled out the gemstone necklace I bought from the Paradise gift shop.

"Oooo I love it, thank you Gracie!!" she tackled me with a hug.

"You're very welcome, now missy as much as I'd love to sit here while you attack me. I have to finish up some summer homework." i sighed.

She got up and walked towards the door but before she left she said over her shoulder, "Well missy you should have finished that earlier schools tomorrow dummy." and with that she ran out giggling.

I smiled, that sassy girl was right, I got up to finish up the last of my summer work before the start of senior year.
