The walk from the bookstore is short, and I study the people of the city as we walk by. Those of the upper class ride around in carriages normally, though some step out to peek in shops or get a bite to eat. There are vendors lining the streets, offering deals to passerby.

One child runs up behind me, grabbing my skirts and tugging them. "Please ma'am, some money," he asks, holding out his hands.

My heart softens at the look of this child. "Here," I reply, pulling out a few francs for the boy. It isn't much, but hopefully it helps. I don't have that much, but I can't give away every penny that I have.

"He'll keep coming to you now, asking for money," Arno says, looking to me.

"Well, maybe next time I can give him some food instead," I respond with a shrug. After spending some time on the streets, begging for anything that can help, I know how hard it is to live.

Arno guides me into a cafe, in which there are many people enjoying tea and cakes. "This is my establishment," he says proudly, leading me to a table for two.

When we sit down, a teakettle and two cups, along with some snacks, are brought to us by a blushing maid. "Thank you Charlotte," Arno says, smiling at the girl. She curtseys and leaves. "I never got your name."

"I'm Sophie," I answer, pouring the tea for the two of us. "And you're Arno, my mysterious savior that owns this cafe and lives by a strange creed."

"You're observant," he remarks, eyeing me up. "I want to make you a deal."

"A deal?"

"You have a skill, you don't brush off certain things that you hear. The Assassins could use that skill of yours to our advantage," he elaborates.

"Assassins?" I ask.

Arno answers, delving into the history of the war between them and the Templars, and my mouth drops. "All I am asking is that you be our eyes and ears for your street. You can keep documents and records of the things you see and hear, especially of Templar activity."

I pause, sipping on my tea. The warm liquid, sweetened by sugar and cream, slides down my throat.

"Okay Arno, I'll do it."
