Prologue
I hear her muffled screams the more I run through the darkness. It’s like a never ending labyrinth I will never find where I need to get to. I continue to run and every step her muffled cries get louder, I finally come an opening where I see her bound on the ground with tears streaming down her face. She looks terrified and badly beaten lying on the ground, pulling out my phone and running over to her she starts screaming and frantically trying to get away from me. “Shh, Sarah its okay” I whisper to her untying the gag around her mouth.
“Alice is that you?” she asked sobbing; I quickly dial triple ‘0’.
“Yeah, it’s going to be okay” I whispered into her hair just as the operated answered. I told her we needed an ambulance and the police and told her our location. I quickly untied the other bounds on my sister, Sarah and helped her up. “It’s okay helps coming, but we better get out of here” I told her helping her out the alley. She nodded but continued to sob on my shoulder. Sarah has never gotten in this much trouble before, but she has really poor taste in friends and whenever she gets in trouble I always have had to save her ever since we were children. Even though Sarah and me are twins we couldn’t be more different, I’ve always been the good girl who does whatever her parents say, I’ve never skipped, done drugs or even been to a party. That’s everything Sarah does, lately she’s been getting with the really bad crowd and this is where I find her. Beaten in the abandon area of town. I sigh and continue to help Sarah down the alley. I start hearing laughter and male voices coming the way we’re going, I curse and turn around. “Can you run?” I ask her. She’s crying harder now but nods at me. “I’ll be right behind you” I tell her and she starts to run with me close behind her as we turn the corner she knocks something over and bottles smash. “Did you hear that?” I hear one of the voices ask. Sarah is still running ahead of me so I slow to jog and look over my shoulder to see the guys’ closer than I thought. I quicken my pace but someone grabs me buy the hair tugging me back and puts their hand over my mouth. I bite them as hard as I can in a struggle to get away.
“Fuck, she bit me” He hisses and then throws me into the wall. I cry out in pain, falling to a heap on the ground but someone picks me up by the hair and feel a burning pain in my stomach. I start crying out in pain only to start choking on blood. I hear sirens in the distance but I’m in to much pain to care, whoever was holding me up by the hair drops me swearing about the police and they all start to run away leaving me as a broken pile on the ground in a pile of my own blood. I feel like I’ve lying there for hours but it couldn’t have been more than a few minutes when I see a pair of black sneakers walk up to me. I barely have enough energy to look up only to see the most beautiful boy I have ever seen when I do.
He extends his hand to me “Care for a job?” I could almost laugh at the weirdness of the question considering I was dying on the ground in a dark alleyway. Looking at his extended hand I use almost the very last of my life to reach out and grab it. I don't know why I grab this strange boys hand, I should be begging for his help. He should be calling an ambulance. I should be living not dying. But as I look into his beautiful eyes which look as if they're glowing in the darkness an overwhelming sense of calmness fills me and for some mysterious reason I felt that everything was going to be alright.
He smiles an amazing smile at me not looking a tiny bit worried “Welcome to the life of a Reaper” and that is the very last thing I hear before I die.
