My eyes scanned the sea of people, searching for a familiar face. I sighed and sat back down on the barstool. She said 9:30... I thought to myself. "LANE!" I heard someone squeal. I wasn't even phased.
"Hey, Ally," I said, spinning around on the stool.
She leaned in close. "Did you get in okay?" She whispered. I rolled my eyes.
"Ally, they let ANYONE in this club." For her 20th birthday, former good-girl Ally Boone wanted to go to her first club. Clubs weren't a new experience for me, though. I'd come here often when I couldn't sleep. I didn't drink alcohol, mostly because I can't. I've had kidney problems for as long as I can remember. I spent more time in hospitals than I did my own house.
The lights were few- mostly strobes and the occasional lamp near the bar. Ally giggled like a little girl. "I think..." She said hesitantly. "I think I'm going to get some shots."
"Wow," I said sarcastically. "Slow down, cowgirl."
The atmosphere was cloudy. People were drunk. The music was loud. The lights were flashing so bright, I'm surprised no one was having a seizure. Ally and I seemed to be the only sober people here.
Ally asked the nearest bartender for a shot. He handed one over without a second thought. Ally held it in here hand and just looked at it for a minute.
"Lane," she realized, "I don't know how to take a shot."
"Here," I sighed. I took some salt from the little bowl on the counter-top and placed it on her wrist. "Drink," I ordered. I've never taken shots, but I've seen enough people take them to know how. She emptied the glass. "Now eat the salt." Ally licked the salt off her wrist. She whirled around to the bartender.
"Can I get a couple more shots, please," she asked with a sly grin. I snorted. She has no idea what she's getting into. I turned around to examine the club. There were a lot more people than usual, and the music was extra loud. After about 10 more shots, Ally was drunk.
"AYEEE!" Said Ally, wrapping her arms around my neck. "Have you ever met the... Uh..." She let go of my neck and started spinning around in a circle singing the Dora theme song. I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder.
