on your own.

Toriel had lead you down the long corridor, holding your hand in her much larger one and gently guiding you around the turns. She hated to see you go, but you told her that you wanted to set things right and try to stop Chara from hurting any more monsters. "Please be good, my child." She said softly, leaning down and giving you a warm hug, in which you wished you could melt into and forget everything else. Toriel was a nice monster, and you didn't know what lay beyond those tall, menacing doors before you. For all you knew, death was waiting beyond that door.

"I'll call you if I need help, okay?" You said, earning a soft laugh from her as she ruffled your hair a bit. "Please do. I'll see you later, Frisk."
"See you later, Toriel."

You dared not to call her your mother, after what she had told you about her meeting with Chara. You just didn't want to cause her more grief from the other human. Either way, you waved goodbye to her as you cracked open the door, concealing a shiver against the cold as you stepped out and it swung closed behind you.

...Well... You were on your own now. You walked through the freshly-lain snow, feeling it crunch a bit under your boots as you aimed for the weird bridge... thing... that lay ahead, nearly tripping over a fallen twig before catching yourself and continuing on.

      Nothing happened.

As you stepped over to the bridge, you had the strongest urge to turn around; a quick glimpse would show nobody was there. Shrugging off your fear, you continued onward, past what looked like an abandoned condiments shack and past a few very simple, deactivated puzzles (The invisible maze got you, but you weren't holding the orb, so you didn't get electrocuted. Thankfully there were indents of where someone stepped previously, although a bit buried).

Finally you made it to a small town, and you took the time to enjoy the view. Filled with DETERMINATION at the sight of such a small, welcoming community, you guided yourself into the shop to buy some food and then head out to the inn she recommended. You didn't stay for long due to the creepily musical people in the other room, but you were well-rested anyway.

You were just about to leave when a tense feeling crept along your spine, gazing at the last house there. Two mailboxes sat beside each other; one was filled to the brim with mail from various people, and the other... had a note. You hated being nosey, but... Something told you to read it. Edging close, you slipped the paper out and hid behind the house close to the shack, opening it cleanly so you could fold the flap in again as you took out the note, addressed to someone named Papyrus from a whole bunch of people.

"We miss you... We'll get revenge... Love you Papyrus... Where did your dust go?... Miss your spaghetti..."

There was, of course, so much more to read, but you found yourself tearing up at such a sad note. Apparently this man died... but from who? Was he killed by the same person who killed the man's brother, that Toriel talked about? Or perhaps, was he the brother? You hesitated as you heard footsteps crunch nearby, soon spotting a small white dog dropping a bone at your feet, it's tail wagging rapidly as you picked it up.

Papyrus.

The name clawed itself in the back of your mind, you hand trembling a bit as you decided to pocket it in your satchel that Toriel gave you. Now... Now wasn't the time to ask questions, but you needed to get a move on if you were going to find Chara. With a cloudy exhale, you pulled back a few strands of brown hair before gently petting the dog and then continuing on your path. Perhaps you would be able to find the brother that Toriel made jokes with. Oh, man, you hoped he was alright. The sudden realization that you were wasting time strolling about filled you with DETERMINATION, and you hurried your pace.
