welcome back.

This place was rather beautiful, if it wasn't a bit chilly. You were now starting to argue with yourself about why you didn't bring a nice, warm sweater when a spear shot upfront of you, narrowly missing your foot, and landing before you. Eyes wide, you stared in horror to the tall grasses where it came from, edging through and catching your foot in some of the grass. You did your best not to make any noise as you started trying to untie it from your ankle, only to hear faint voices in the distance.
"By now she's told Asgore to absorb the six human souls... evacuate everyone... this world... will live on!"

A gust of wind silenced the person ahead, and you rubbed some dust out of your eyes that caught on you. As one particle brushed past your ear, you could have sworn that you heard a soft sigh of despair, along with the faintest breath, "I failed."

A new feeling surged in you, something that you've known for a long time... Something that you've felt ever since you were old enough to understand words...

Fear. Fear, mingling with your sense of determination and clouding your gaze. Toriel had told you about what happens when a monster dies, and surely this was one of them. This meant that Chara wasn't too far, probably within your grasp, and yet you didn't know what to do. They would... would kill you too, right? You were human, and these were monsters. Yet something told you this was much more complicated than a simple desire to go back to the surface.

Chara killed these innocent beings. Dare you say... murdered? That's how it seemed, anyway. Toriel was kind, at least, not to try and hurt you, and yet this other human was making them suffer, taking everything away from them. You were barely aware of your fists clenching beside you, and your body shaking in discomfort, but you knew you couldn't sit back any more, lest Chara kills more of the nice monsters.

You stepped through the tall grass, eyeing the unearthed soil and broken rocks all around, as well as the magical spears that were just now starting to fade. Suddenly you could hear footsteps and your gaze met with that of a very disappointed-looking monster child, fear and anger swelling inside of him as he turned to look- no, glare- at you, running toward you head-on.

Rather than retreating as quickly as possible into the overgrowth, you kept yourself firmly planted. You also expected a blow to the gut, but a startled yelp pulled you away from your thoughts. The child had tripped over his feet, struggling to stand up again thanks to his lack of arms. You approached carefully, grabbing his sides and hefting him up to his feet again, despite his complaints.

"Are you al-"
"You killed her! You killed Undyne!" He suddenly shrieked, nose flaring. You sat back on your knees, appalled, as he head-butted you repeatedly (which really didn't hurt except for his spikes prodding you). "H-Hold on, I didn't kill anyone. It was-"

"Liar, I saw you! I watched the whole thing- you hit her with your knife and she started melting, and then she turned into dust- I hate you and your stupid... knife..." He stumbled on his words, faltering back a bit and eyeing your hands. "Where's the knife?"

"I don't have one." You began, soon starting to explain yourself and their current situation.

"So... you're a nice human?" Kid inquired with a tilt of his comically large head, and you nodded. "That means that m-maybe you could... help?"

"I plan on stopping Chara, so yeah, I'm here to help." You let out a startled yelp as Kid tried to hug-tackle you, though it ended up him just nuzzling your shoulder since he didn't have arms. "T-Thank you so much, um... Oh? Okay then. Thank you so much Frisk!"

You waved to him as he jumped a little, running back in the direction of Snowdin despite tripping on his face once. You were about to help, but he quickly got back up and ran off, black eye and all.

How could someone hurt such kind creatures? Sure, they weren't human, but that was no excuse for genocide! At least, no good excuse, as you could imagine a rather stubborn higher-up ordering the "harvest" of monsters for whatever sick purpose. You trembled at the thought of what it would be like if monsters didn't turn to dust after they died, and the only vision your mind conjured were heads mounted on a wall in every human house.
