Prologue

Garroth's POV

I'm letting Aphmau go. I might never see her again, but if I do... She'd be older, older than she is now and we'd never have a chance. She'd probably be married to Laurance. My heart aches to think about it, but I need to do it. If I'm not deciding this- she'd die. Right in front of me. I cannot let that happen.

But... Laurance would take her. When I'd come back, if I do, I'd have no chance whatsoever.

I peek over my shoulder to see Aphmau looking at me- a look of sadness and regret. The. She turned and jumped through the portal. I squeeze a tear out, then look back at Zane. A voice in my head. The portal is still there. Go. Should I go? Yes! Go now, before it's too late.

"Zane. I-I'll join you if you stop this." I say, my voice hoarse with anxiousness. The portal is getting smaller! GO! Zane slowly sheathed his sword. "I'd never known my big brother to give up this easily," he smirked, and I turn away from him.

"I'm not giving up." I say.

I jump in at the last second. Right before the portal closed. Then, everything went black.
