Emily watched as Alison carefully opened the envelope. Opening it slowly, as if to torture Emily with it. "Alison, can you hurry?" Emily pleaded. Alison looked at Emily and raised an eyebrow,
"Why're you in a rush?"
"I'm not it's just that--you're taking too long.."
Alison ignored Emily and continued opening the envelope slowly. Emily mentally groaned as she sees the note slowly falling off. Before it could fall to the ground, Emily catched it. Alison looked at her and gave her an innocent smile, "Thanks, Emily." Alison tried to take the letter from Emily's hands but she had a strong grip on it.
"Emily." She warned.
"Emily!" She warned once more.
Emily quickly lets go of the letter and she apologizes, "Sorry... Er--I zoned out." Alison looked at the letter and then at Emily and she smiled,
"It's okay, now, will you read it for me?"
"Why me? These are for you." Emily whined, gesturing to the other letters on the table.
"I know... But I want you to read it."
The way Alison said 'you' made Emily squirm in her seat and swallow a lump in her throat,
"O-Okay." She stammered, picking up the note.
The note that Alison picked up was the one she wrote at the lunchroom. Emily cleared her throat and started,
"Dear, Alison.
I am a mess. Although, you don't know me yet. So, first of all, I am fucked up. The first time I saw you, I knew I fucked up. I was madly in love with you--am still in love with you. But you deserve someone better. You deserve someone who's not a coward. Who would just go up to you and confess their undying love for you.
But of course that's not me. Here I am, sitting in the lunch room, writing an anonymous love letter to you. But guess what? I love you. I love you. You need an award for that because I have never ever fallen in love with anyone. I never thought it would have been you but I did a little because it was love at first sight for me.
Please send me a letter back and place it at the door hinges in Mr. Fitz's door. Thank you so much, babe.
I love you."
Emily looked at Alison and she saw something in Alison's eyes that she has never seen before. It was like a sparkle. Alison smiled and said,
"Well... who's it from?"
"Someone."
"What do you mean someone?" Alison grabbed the paper from Emily's hand and quickly skimmed it to see who wrote it. But, sadly, it didn't say who.
"Your secret lover." Alison breathed out and then she straightened herself on her seat and she looked at Emily,
"Who could this be?" She asked the brown-eyed girl beside her with a hint of excitement in her voice.
"I-I don't k-know." Emily lied.
"Well," Alison started, putting her legs up on the couch, wrapping her arms around it while she paced back and forth, "First, I can't even imagine someone ever liking me. People say I'm not likable.. Second, I wonder if he's cute or not but that doesn't really matter to me anymore because this was the only time someone actually took interest in me and sent me a love letter!" Alison squealed.
