North's POV
Something was wrong with Rose. She came to school like normal. She walked up to me and said Hi, like normal. But there was something off about her. First of all, she was wearing a dark, pair of aviator sunglasses. Now you probably don't think this is very weird, but the fact that it was raining outside and had been for the past couple weeks meant that there was no reason for anyone to wear sunglasses. When I asked her about this she replied with an easy excuse, "Oh, I got an eye exam today." But I should've known something else was wrong.
She didn't really smile as she usually did. Nor did she laugh, which was especially odd considering we're talking about Rose. Rose is a big bundle of energetic happiness, her one goal in life is to make everyone's day 100 percent better. That's why when she didn't act her usual happy and joyful self it made all of us uneasy. Her voice was also choppy and almost emotionless, and she didn't really interact with us as much as she usually did. One reason I knew for sure something was wrong with her was when didn't give me that beautiful, day dreamy, lovestruck, look she usually gave me. Because, when she gives me that look it's her way of saying I love you instead of saying it out loud.
Rose and I have been secretly dating for about two weeks. So I don't want you to think I'm some creepy, daydreaming guy who has a crush on Rose. We didn't want to tell our friends yet because we wanted it to be a bit of a surprise; you see, they have been trying to get us to date for months now. We both had feelings for each other for a while, until one day when Rose actually had the guts, to come right out and tell me. After that it took some time for us to decide what was going to happen with us but, as my friends say, I just "grew a pair" and asked her to be my girlfriend.
Anyways, back to me explaining to you why I was freaking out. Something was definitely off with Rose, but at that time my brain was being as dumb as always and thought "Oh, she's probably just sick or something." So I continued through the normal school day. I went to English, then social studies and then finally lunch. Lunch was my favorite time of the day, but I guess everyone says that. Other than geometry, it was the only time I got to see Rose. I sat down next to her and Karin (Karin was Rose's best friend) as I usually did, and I watched Rose to see if anything had changed. Her movements were oddly precise; not Rose movements (for once she wasn't clumsy). I took a bite out of my turkey sandwich and thought about all these weird things, and contemplated what I was going to do next.
Suddenly a feeling washed over me, it felt like nausea and fear combined. I just felt this awful, horrible feeling that something was terribly, terribly, wrong with Rose. And I had to find out what it was and I had to fix it.
"Rose?" I said questioningly, she swiveled her head towards me, and looked me straight in the eyes.
"Yes?" She replied automatically,
"Is something wrong?" I asked and thought for a moment," are you OK?" She cocked her head at me, like an animal, as if she didn't understand.
"I'm fine." She said in a sickely, sweet
and robotic voice. That was not good enough for me. I was done playing hide and go seek with this horrible feeling that was consuming me. I stood up quickly, grabbing her hand as I did and pulling her up with me. I dragged her out of the lunch hallway and hearing Karin's questioning voice, as I turned another corner and found a secluded area of the school. I turned to her so that we were face-to-face.
I sighed," OK what the hell is going on?" I demanded, "You're acting really weird today." Rose stood motionless. "Rose, are you even listening!?" I yelled, frustrated.
"There is no Rose here," a deeper raspy voice sounded. I saw Rose's lips moving but the sound didn't quite match them. Before I knew it, Rose's hand was on my throat and she was pushing me up against the wall with unhuman-like strength. With her other hand Rose ripped the aviators off of her face and crushed them in her fist. Her eyes were pitch black and her face was emotionless.
"Son of Ambriel, I know who you are, and your mother will not be pleased when I bring her your head." The voice was tinted with sarcasm and anger.
"Who are you?" I said gasping for air.
"You may not remember me but I am Asura. I was a friend of your mother, until she cast me away to rot for eternity in The Under Realm." Rose's face contorted in anger and hate.
"Until, Rose was born." Asura paused, "And now I can finally get my revenge on Ambriel! And once I have your mother out of the way, The Angel kingdom will fall, and demons will rule the earth!"I felt the grip on my throat tightened as Rose pushed me higher on the wall. Pure hatred, fire, and loathing filled Rose's eyes, but they weren't her eyes anymore; they were Asura's eyes.
"Let Rose go!" I coughed, as my vision starting to go black around the edges.
"Don't you understand boy? I am part of Rose; she can never get rid of me! I will always be with her."
I was confused. I didn't understand what this thing inside of Rose meant by that.
"She's tried to get rid of me before but she never prevails!" Asura let out a sadistic giggle. "Even if she does kill herself, she won't kill me." Rose's face contorted into another devilish smile. The pressure on my throat was getting tighter and I could no longer breathe. I grabbed at Rose's hand, trying to pry it from my throat.
"Rose...stop..." I whispered, as I started to slip out of consciousness.
Rose had a confused look on her face, and suddenly Asura gasped. Asura's eyes turned back to Rose's color and a beautiful, defiant look came onto her face.
"You will not win Asura." A small, pained voice escaped Rose's mouth. "I won't let you."
"You cannot me beat me, you silly girl!" Asura laughed,
"No, but I can beat myself."
Rose smashed her fist through a nearby trophy case and grabbed the biggest shard of broken glass.
"I will beat you Asura," Rose whispered," I don't care if it takes me the rest of my life, I will beat you."
With one swift movement Rose stabbed the glass shard into her chest. Asura screamed and Rose took her hand off my throat. I fell to the floor.
"This is not the last you will see of me son of Ambriel! I will come back, and when I do pray for the angel world." The raspy voice died, and Rose fell to the floor beside me.
"Are you, okay?" She wheezed, exhausted.
"Me?!" I gasped, still trying to catch my breath and rub off the red marks, where Rose's hand had been.
"What about you?!"I slowly crawled to my feet. I offered her my hand and she allowed me to pull her to her feet. Rose still had the glass shard sticking out of her chest. I couldn't move as I watched the blood ooze from the wound and soak through her shirt.
" Rose," I whispered.
"Hey, hey, look at me," Rose placed her hand on my cheek and tilted my head so I was looking into her eyes. "I'm fine."
"But...You, stabbed yourself in the chest." I stuttered, still not wanting to move.
"Did I?" She said teasingly. She pulled down the V-neck of her T-shirt to reveal the horrible bloody wound, and pulled the glass shard out of her chest, tossing it aside. The wound started to close before my eyes and it was completely gone in a matter of seconds.
"And you wonder why I've never broken any bones." She said sarcastically.----------------------------------------------
