“Three days!” Lily shouted. “He lasted three days.”
“Hmm?” Sophie mumbled from her toast at breakfast that morning.
“The toe-rag lasted three days before trying to peep me through the keyhole! How could he think I wouldn’t have put a charm on it?” Lily was literally screeching and beginning to draw attention from the entire Great Hall.
“Did he see anything good?” asked Karlee, always to the point.
“No, he didn’t, and now he can’t see anything at all,” Sirius interrupted, plopping down beside the girls and stealing Karlee’s toast. It barely touched his lips before it was snatched away and thrown down the table.
“Shame its only temporary!” Lily said with a nasty sneer.
“Aww you don’t mean that lil’s,” said Karlee, which earned her a glare and something that sounded suspiciously like “wanna bet?”
Just that moment, James plopped down beside Lily and proclaimed to the whole Great Hall that he was “glad he had his sight back because he was sure he’d go mad if he couldn’t lay eyes on her ever again.”
Lily’s face blended with her hair for two seconds as she opened and closed her mouth a few times.
Then finally “JAMES POTTER! I understand that you think that you own this place, but let me set one thing straight for you…you have never and WILL never have me. Do you understand that I loathe you? You are an arse to everyone around you 99 percent of the time and think that somehow you are good looking enough to get away with it. Guess what? You’re not! You have harassed me for the last six years and I have had ENOUGH! I can’t stand to look at your face, and you do nothing but put yourself in my way constantly! You should be ashamed of what you did this morning, but instead you actually find it funny. Do you know how humiliating that is for me? To be disrespected so callously? You claim to be in love with me, but you have NEVER treated me with kindness or respect…..you act like a boy genius but you can’t see that I hate you? Do not EVER disrespect me like that again, in fact, don’t even look at me again! LEAVE ME ALONE! Let me say it again really slowly so there will be no confusion…LEEEEEEEAVEEEEE MEEEEEE ALOOOOOONE.”
The silence that followed this tirade was almost as deafening as the rant itself. Lily was halfway to the door before the entire Great Hall erupted in applause.
Sophie actually felt sorry for James. His face was pale and he looked like he was in shock. Shy little Lily Evans had just scolded him publicly and in no uncertain terms made it clear she hated him in front of the whole school. Karlee and Sophie scurried to catch up with Lily but found her outside potions looking calm as ever. “That felt good,” she laughed. “Been keeping that in long, love?” Karlee joked, to ease the tension. Even though she laughed the girls could tell that Lily was shocked at her own behavior. “I should probably apologize, I do have to live with him….what do you think?” The two girls shared a look, “whatever you think is best Lily, but I think maybe you should just leave him alone for awhile,” Karlee said. “I agree, “chirped Sophie “he deserves to feel bad for what he did!”
