What about me? says Karlee

Karlee was bored. With Sophie off doing captain-y things every morning and evening, and Lily off doing head-y things at all times really, she didn’t have anyone to talk to. Karlee loved to talk. About people, politics, current events, music, fashion, family, pets, hair, make-up, shoes, exercises, diet tips, teachers, Remus….ahem….oh actually she just liked to think about Remus. No one knew her secret crush on him, as she had been careful to act completely indifferent to all four of the marauders since third year. But she knew all about Remus. They all thought they were so clever, sneaking around the grounds at night, but she had seen through the charade.  “Moony” she snorted to herself…what an idiot.

While she usually had feeling for Remus, they weren’t anything that a quick fling couldn’t make her forget about. But this year they seemed to be spending much more time with each other. Potions partners, and they sat next to each other in Divination. Sharing tea and getting high right at the table during a school sponsored activity tended to forge bonds between people. Karlee knew it wasn’t actual Marijuana they were burning in their incense burners, but the effects were the same.

Sirius and James would never have dropped Divination if they knew the good stuff they got to try to “Free their inner eye.”

Karlee could never forget a dream (vision? No….dream…she was sleeping…pretty sure of it) she had in 5th year of Remus changing into a werewolf and almost killing her. That is how she figured his secret out. She wasn’t really worried he would kill her, sometimes mushrooms gave people weird paranoia’s, or so their hippy teacher said.

He didn’t know she knew, but she wished she could tell him. People thought she was a gossipy bitch, but in reality she valued loyalty and when it came to her friends she wouldn’t tolerate any bullshit. She wished she could let Remus know she supported him, and that they could talk about it instead of skirting the issue. She knew he liked her, how could he not?? He told her once in 6th year that she was too good for him, when they were still buzzed walking down the steps from the tower. He was holding her hand helping her down the steps because she was laughing so hard at what Marlene Mckinnon said she saw in her teacup. “A scary ginger man! And Arthur Weasley right there! Its too good!” She stopped laughing because he had dropped her hand and stopped walking down the steps. She turned to look back up at him, pouting “C’mon Reams…I’m hungry!” He just looked at her and said “You’re too good for me Karlee.” And walked away. They had never mentioned it to each other. She thought he might think she didn’t remember, or was embarrassed.

She wasn’t too good for him, wasn’t ashamed of his condition, and wanted desperately for him to come to his senses and ask her out. She dated other guys, but only because she thought it might make him jealous. Soph and Lily always joked on her about liking him and she denied it. Not because she was embarrassed, he was fit as ever these days, but because she felt unsure about his feelings. How would he react if he knew? She didn’t think she could still be friends with him after he knew and STILL did nothing about it. That rejection would hurt too much.
