Alrighty, since this is my first interview, I thought I'd give you all a run down on how these work. Basically, I pick an author from Wattpad who have an Avengers Fan Fiction story. I doesn't matter how popular it is, if its good, I'll ask you for an interview.
The interviews consist of 2 parts. The first part is a 'Typical Avengers Fandom Questions' and the second round is about ten or so questions that I specifically tailor for each author and whatever story I'm interviewing them about.
Oh, and the interviewer is me! @arielleblack! Author of the Metallic Charms series and the Marvel Games. Also, co-writer of Marvel Games: Next Avengers.
So, without further ado, my first interview!
@yo_Valdez Interview: Avengers Authors -- Avengers Magazine
@yo_Valdez is a pretty little-known writer by Wattpad standards, but she's got a gift for leaving you hanging on her every word until she abruptly finishes the chapter and states "that's all for today, folks, stick around until I post the next one where we finally figure out if they live or die!" Personally, I've labeled her as the Queen of Cliff Hangers.
So, if you're into a lot of action, cliff hangers that'll keep you guessing until the very end, and a lot of quirkiness, then @yo_Valdez's books are the ones for you! But this interview is specifically about her "IronBoy" book and what makes her fan fiction different from others.
Typical Avengers Fandom Questions:
Favourite Character: Spider Man/Peter Parker
Least Favourite Character: Wolverine
Favourite Ship: Tony x Pepper
Character I Find Most Attractive: Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker
Character I Would Marry: Peter Parker
Character I Would Be Best Friends With: Tony Stark
Random Avengers Related Thought: Tony Stark's hair
Most Badass Character: Black Widow
Favourite Friendship: Bruce and Tony
Character I Would Like To Be Adopted By: Steve Rogers/Captain America
Arielle's Questions:
1- Who is your favourite Avenger and why? (besides the obvious "he/she is hot")
My favorite avenger is probably Black Widow because she's a kick ass woman avenger who doesn't need the guys to protect her.
2- Tell us about your main character and "IronBoy". What made you want to write about a person like that?
Tony Stark Jr. [in IronBoy] is a lot like his dad and really kind of grew up in his dads shadow. So naturally he's always trying to impress him. IronBoy has been re-written 3 times before this one and changed a lot from the original storyline. In the first couple Tony actually had an older brother.
I wanted to write this because Tony is just that kind of character that I fell like he needs his own story.
3- Are any of your characters based on people you know?
Hell yeah! Almost all of my characters are based off people I know! But more than that, a lot of the main characters are based off the people I wish I could be. So they do tend to like some of the stuff I like- like Tony Jr likes skateboarding, martial arts, and building stuff.
4- Tony Jr's dad is the one and only Tony Stark, is there any reason why you chose to do that?
Sort of. When I watched the Avengers and saw how him and Pepper were really getting close as a couple I was like "what if they had a kid? What would his/her life be like?" And it ended up being IronBoy.
5- You obviously like writing about the Avenger Kids aspect of Marvel, what makes that so interesting, alluring and different to the other typical Marvel/Avengers Fan Fiction the majority of people come across?
I feel like writing in the P.O.V. of a kid with superpowers is something a lot of readers can relate more to. These kids have to deal with not only the hell of high school but also the trouble that comes with being a superhero. For some, like T.S.J., its a little different because his parents are billionaires. I like writing it because I can really get into the character and it feels like I'm someone else telling a story about what happened to me the other night with Killer Shrike.
6- What do you want to do career wise?
Career? I'm not totally sure yet but I would really like to go into acting/music/writing industry. Otherwise I would like to be a Lego Master Builder (I have over 6,500 lego bricks) or go into the military
7- What are your hobbies besides writing/fan girling?
I'm a red belt in Tae Kwon Do and I was on track team this season. I also sing, play guitar drums and piano, volunteer at Animal Friends, I'm directing writing and producing a hunger games spoof for YouTube (check out my channel TheCarrotKidsShow), I cosplay a lot too.
8- What other fandoms are you apart of?
I'm a huge Rise of the Guardians (Jack Frost) fan, I have this strange ninja obsession (ninjago), and (don't hate me) I'm a directioner. I also really like How to Train Your Dragon. Oh and Percy Jackson.
9- Which Avengers Phase 2 movie are you most looking forward to?
Hmmmm... Well we already had IronMan 3. So if Marvel was still going through with it, a Black Widow movie.
10- Any tips on writing Avengers fan fiction for fellow writers?
Don't make them too cheesy. A lot of you are so terrible at that. Stop it's annoying. Know the characters BEFORE you write the fan fiction. And a Marvel fan fiction is only as good as its fight scenes.
11- Want to give any Avengers authors a bit of shameless advertising?
Not really. Other than my co-writer, the (I'm about to go all Stan Lee here) uncanny Arielle Black ( ;
12- What other projects are you working on at the moment -- Can we expect any more Avengers stories from you?
I have a shit ton of stories I'm writing. Along with the Iron Man suit I'm making so... Yeah. You can definitely expect more Next Avengers books. We're still waiting for me to post the big last chapter to IronBoy
Bonus Question: Shoot, Shag or Marry: Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner?
Shoot: Natasha Romanoff
Shag: Bruce Banner
Marry: Steve Rogers
