Despite being in America for almost a year, he was still pretty new to America.
He had no idea what he was doing.
He had no idea where to take his family. Locations he had been to personally popped in his mind, but none seemed to stand out. Where would Yao want to go? Of course, he had been to America many times, but Kiku wanted to take him somewhere new. He knew Ivan didn't care where they went. After speaking to Alfred about it, Alfred had come to a wonderful idea.
He wanted Kiku to take Yao to Chinatown.
Alfred wouldn't be able to go with them at first, as he got out if work later than Kiku, but he wanted Yao to see it for some reason. Kiku reluctantly agreed, having no other option. He didn't really think Yao would even like Chinatown much, but whatever. He didn't even really seem to like China itself that much, but he was going to bring him there. Partially because he wanted to see his reaction, half because he couldn't think of anything else.
He figured he would take Leon and Emil, and he knew that would give them the perfect opportunity to slip away, but he didn't really care. Hell, he'd even tell them to hold hands or something, Chinatown was a big, unsafe place. Like Disneyland. People loved to steal kids from there.
"Hey, do you want to bring Emil and come with us to Chinatown...?" He asked Leon. He heard Leon pause a minute to consider. "...mm, sure. Lukas and Mathias thought it would be cool if we like, got out of the house for once," He said, unintentionally sounding like he was living with them already. Kiku checked his watch. "Well, okay, I'll be over there in about, two hours?" He said, stifling a yawn. It was two in the afternoon, yet he was still tired. "Okay... Talk to you later, I gotta like, wake Emil up," He said, and Kiku heard Leon get up. "Wait... He's still asleep?" Kiku asked, a little confused. He was met with a dead line rather than an answer, and tossed his phone on the chair.
Leon sat up in bed and shook the person beside him. Leon had been awake since seven, but since Emil wasn't, he just stayed in bed as well. He shook him harder when Emil pulled the covers over his head. "Get your lazy ass up, it's already two," he joked, pulling the covers all the way back. "Ugh, but I'm so tiredd," he whined. Leon rolled his eyes. He was the tired one, he was still on Japan time after all...! "Well that's so sorry for you. We're going somewhere," he said, digging around in his bag next to him. Emil managed to open his eyes, frowning at 'that's so sorry for you.'
He took out his compact mirror.
He looked hammered- jet lag had done him over badly, and as much as he wanted to sleep in for 24 hours, he wanted to go to Chinatown with Emil.He was new to America, and he still had things he wanted to learn. New things to eat, different candies- probably new words. He had heard a lot about American candies from Emil but had never asked- what was an Airhead? It sounded funny or like an insult, and he's never seen one. They didn't have that back in Japan. He had been thinking about it for the past few days, and he wanted to know. It was a little embarrassing to ask, but hey- how else would he learn?
As soon as Emil sat up, Leon reached out and touched his shoulder suddenly.
"Emil."
Emil jumped slightly and looked at his serious face. "Y..yes?" He asked, a little scared of his tone. "I've been thinking, for like, the past few days, and..." He said, tucking his brown hair behind his ear. "What?" Emil said, sounding kind of nervous. Leon was so serious all of the sudden, his mood changing rapidly from joking to seriousness. He looked into Emil's eyes, his heavy hand still resting on his shoulder. "What's an airhead?" He asked curiously. Emil sat in disbelief before sighing in relief. He could get so worried over such nonsensical things. "It's a person who's kinda dumb, and-"
"No, no, I mean the thing you eat. And I knew it was an insult," he ended under his breath, even though Emil caught it. "Oh, it's a candy. It's kinda thin and long, they're sweet.... colorful?" He added, not really knowing how else to describe the thing he'd ate for years. He learned it was really difficult to explain everyday things to people who had no idea about it.
