After school Matt, Aly, and I walked to Jimmy's, an old fashion ice cream parlor, where I worked.
A little chime went off as we walked in, alerting Jimmy that someone was there.
"Hey Aria! I see ya' actually on time today! What an unnatural occurrence!" Jimmy laughed as I walked behind the counter and pulled on an apron.
"Ha ha," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes when he clutched his beer gut as his loud, obnoxious laughter filled the small shop like he had said the funniest thing in the world.
"Soooo Jimmy my man, I see you have a new flavor of the month. Choco Berry blast? Sounds quite....experimental. Perhaps I should do you a favor and taste test it for you. You know, for safety reasons," Matt said casually, slowly inching towards the vat of chocolate ice cream with pink swirls.
"You know my boy your right! You should taste test it for me," Matts eyes lit up as the old man spoke, "For $3.50, of course." Jimmy slapped Matt on the back and laughed again as a scowl formed on the younger mans face.
Matt grumbled incoherently as he pulled at his wallet, handing Jimmy a few bills. I wasn't at all surprised, Matt had an unhealthy addiction to ice cream. And all junk food for that matter. I'm going to laugh really hard when his eating habits catch up to him and he gains a few hundred pounds. He'll be saying hello to Jenny Craig in no time!
Jimmy put the cash in the register and handed him his change as I scooped the ice cream into a waffle cone, adding an extra scoop for Matt for free. He grinned like a little kid at Christmas when I handed it to him, obviously noticing the additional amount.
Aly walked up to the counter and smiled sweetly, aiming her "You can't say no to me" face at Jimmy. He returned her look with one of suspicion as she started to speak;
"Jim, do you mind if I have a scoop of some chocolate fro-yo?" He looked at her for a second, before nodding at me, indicating he had given in. Not a shocker seeing as no one could really say no to her.
After giving her the frozen yogurt, I started wiping down the tables, saying hello to the customers that I passed. Even thought I only made a little above minimum wage, I loved my job.

A half-hour into my shift Aly and Matt claimed to have a lot of homework to do and left. Great, I thought sarcastically, I'm going to have to walk home alone. I only live a few blocks from the parlor, but by the time my shift was over it was 9 p.m. and dark out.
Ok so maybe I was being a tad bit ridiculous, seeing as I lived in a pretty safe town, but I was scared of the dark. If anyone asked though, I would vehemently deny it.
An ominous breeze blew down the street I was walking on, causing the leaves above me to rustle and making me shiver.
I rubbed my bare arms as I quickened my pace. Why didn't I bring a jacket? I wondered, annoyed at myself.
I heard a strange noise to my left and stopped dead in my tracks. Oh my God, what was that?! I yelled in my head, staring wide eyed at the place where the noise came from. This is it, I thought dramatically, this is where a crazed serial killer jumps out of the bushes and cuts me up into tiny pieces then eats me. Aw man I don't want to be eaten! What if-
My panicked mind ramble was cut off as something emerged out of the tall bush. I let out a squeal as my eyes made contact with another pair.
