CHAPTER 3
The policeman drove me to the police station. Surrounding me were large men dressed up in police colours. None of them seemed to be friendly. In fact, they didn't seem safe. I wasn't sure that I trusted this police officer who allegedly "saved me".
"Come this way please," he ordered, directing me to a small office near the far end of the station. The office had two seats; he asked me to sit on one while he sat on the other.
"Where will I stay?" I asked. My voice was croaky and unclear. Possibly because of the tears I was hiding.
"Excuse me?" He replied.
I didn't know whether he just didn't hear me clearly or he wasn't pleased with what I said, but I knew I should ask again. "Where will I be staying? I have nobody anymore. But I think I have my mother's phone number in my bag. I can call her now if you give me a phone."
He didn't reply. His stern face expressed the fact that he was annoyed.
"Please answer me!" I was loosing it. I couldn't control myself. I was in desperate need of an answer. "I want to call my mother so I can go home!" Tears began dripping down the sides of my cheeks. The anger and sadness inside of my was uncontrollable.
"Fine."
"So can I call her?"
"I did say fine, didn't I?"
I silently opened my bag and dug through my clothes for a note with my mothers phone number. I never managed to learn it of by heart. I continued rummaging through my bag but was unable to find the note. Oh no.
"Ummm.." I stuttered. "I-I can't find the no-note."
"Well that's too bad then," the officer said. "Oh and by the way, what is your name?"
"My name is Mel. But what do you mean that it's too bad? What do I do then? Live on the streets?"
"We can't send you back to your country. You must stay here until we receive a phone call or such," he explained.
"What? This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! Who is going to call? Everybody thinks I'm perfectly fine. Nobody knows that my father has.." I couldn't say any more. My eyes shut for a second and remained quiet.
"I know you have some problems, but we need you to stay here. Your father has discovered that treasure. You are his daughter and therefore claim that treasure as your own." He suddenly stopped as though he had suddenly come to the realisation that he said too much. "Never mind. You are too young to understand this."
"What do you mean? You're trying to get that treasure through me? How could you?" I was astounded. A police officer doing this? I knew that I was in the wrong place. I slowly bent down and picked up my bag.
"You won't understand. We need it for certain reasons."
"Such as what?" I questioned. "There can't be any reason." I slowly lifted my self up of my seats and made a run for it. I ran out through the entrance and onto the barren road.
"Get back here!" The man called. "This is very important!"
I kept running and didn't turn back. I knew that this place was not at all safe. I needed my mother most of all. But as usual I was alone.
Suddenly, I heard voices behind me, and someone shouted, "Grab her!"
I turned around and noticed that three strong men were chasing after me. Oh no! This couldn't get any worse. I was never fast at running, and those men seemed like they would reach me in a couple of seconds.
"Go away! Leave me alone!" I shouted. Knowing that the smartest idea was to call attention to myself, I screamed as loud as I could. An old woman looked out of the door of her apartment. "Help me!" I screamed out to her.
She directed me into her house and once I entered, she locked the door behind me. Her apartment was locked up tight. I was finally safe. Or so it seemed.

I'll do another chapter as soon as I can :)
