CHAPTER 4
As I glanced around, I noticed that the old woman's house was crowded with all kinds of weapons. She had guns and pistols hanging all over the walls and large knifes decorating the kitchen. If my mother had seen this, she'd be shocked and scared. But I couldn't get any more scared than I already was.
"What's the time?" I asked, thinking that it was around 2 a.m.
"It's 12.45," she replied in a stern yet gentle way. "You had better sleep if you want energy for tomorrow."
I knew I was tired. But could it possibly be safe to sleep in the house of a stranger, who had weapons in every room?
Of course, I knew that I had to sleep. I also felt hungry, but decided to keep quiet.
"Okay, I will sleep now," I finally said, wondering where the bedrooms were.
"Follow me." She led me through a dark passage, below ground level. There, I saw three room doors. Each one had a large sign on it; one said "Guests", another said "Private" and the final one said "Emergency".
"You are to only stay in your room. If you require anything, please ring the bell near the door on the inside. It is strictly forbidden that you enter my room, the "private" one, she explained. "The emergency room is for incase anybody, such as the police, enter this house. I will guide you through the evacuation plan later. For now just get rest in your own room."
I nodded and opened the door to my new room. It smelt of gunpowder and something I couldn't quite identify. The room only had one bed and a small table in the corner. I placed my bag in one corner and lay down on the bed to sleep.
---
When I woke up in the morning, I found a fresh cup of tea on the table beside my bed. My throat was dry and croaky, and I knew that a nice cup of soothing tea would help. The only thing initially holding me back was the thought that the elderly woman could have spiked it with something horrid.
But I was in terrible need of a drink, so I had it anyway. It surprisingly tasted the same as my mother's tea.
Once I finished it, I exited my room and walked over to the kitchen. There, I placed the empty cup in the sink and rummaged through the fridge, hoping to find something delicious and nutritious for breakfast.
I was only able to find a piece of cake, so I quickly gobbled it up. It's taste was wonderful and satisfying.
"Is everything alright?" the woman asked from behind me. "You seemed to be disturbed last night."
I turned around, confused about what she said.
"What do you mean? I'm sure I slept like a baby. I didn't even wake up once."
"You were yelling in your sleep. I heard you say something about your father."
"I-I don't.." I didn't know what to say to make the situation less awkward.
"Don't worry about it. It must've been a dream," she said, whilst waking over to the sink to wash my cup.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem. By the ways my name is Elise. Would you like my to should you the evacuation root now?" she asked, just as she finishing washing my cup.
"Sure," I replied, in deep interest. "Thanks again for taking care of me."
Elise lead me to the "Emergency room". Inside, there were about ten passages, all leading to different places.
"When you come in here, for whatever reason, you must close the door behind you," she explained, pointing at the door we had just come through. "Then, you are to enter the third passage from the right. It leads you under the creak and to a place near the airport, where my friends live. The other door will lead you to the edge of underground cliffs."
"Why are there so many doors?"
"When the enemy enters this room, they will not know which way to go. Most likely, they will enter one of the other nine doors, and will not find you."
"Okay. That's a smart idea." I sweetly smiled at her, in admiration.
She nodded and then lead me out of the room, whilst giving me more instructions. "You are not to leave this house. It is far too dangerous. There are-"
"Wait, what?" I interrupted. "How will I get home if I can't leave this house?"
"Please don't interrupt me," she stated, grumpily. "The people out there are not to be trusted. You will only find a few people who will not try to harm you."
"How do I know you are worthy of my trust?" I questioned, wondering if she was apart of "the bad side".
"Well, you should know. I saved you from the police officers. They only wanted to use you so that they can get your father's money."
"But how do I know you aren't doing the same?"
I could tell I was making our conversation awkward, and decided to stop.
"You can tell when a person will deceive you. It's expressed through the way they look at you," as she said this, she disappeared into her room.
I also disappeared into my room, but I couldn't help thinking that I had to find a way back home.
A/N: okay, I know that was a bit confusing and strange, but it will get more interesting soon.
