Savannah's was crowded. Which I guess makes sense. It was Christmas Eve and Savannah's would be closed the next week. They were also throwing a special Christmas party for everyone that came in the doors, from the minute they opened to the minute they closed. So, as soon as I pulled Chase inside the entire diner erupted in cheers, scaring both me and Chase half out of our wits. Kenzie, our usual waitress came over and handed us both a little goodie bag, full of well, I wasn't sure what it was full of. "Yay! I'm so glad you guys came! Have a seat! I'll be right there to take your order." Kenzie turning and weaving her way over the counter. Chase grabbed my hand so I didn't lose him as we wove our way through the crowd of people attempting to dance in the small space. Finally we found an empty table. "Oh, I forgot about this." Chase said absently. I giggled and looked around the diner. "Me to, and we used to come here for this every year." I said, remembering our past years at these Christmas Party things right here our favorite diner. When we were really little our parents would stay with us, then when we were older we walked by ourselves, and then we just stopped. I met Kami and I did everything with her, and even though I practically dropped Chase leaving him to fend for himself he still came around even after Kami was gone. Once again that warm feeling came back. What was happening to me? Chase said something and I looked up confused. "What?" I asked. Chase laughed and held up his menu. "I said are you going to get something to eat or are you just going to sit there and stare at the table?" Chase smirked and I shook my head.
"I was not staring at the table!!"
"Uh, you were too.""Was not!"
Just then Kenzie came over. I guess she still remembered our usual orders because she brought us heaping plates of food and two cups of Hot Chocolate. "Here you are. It's so nice seeing you two hanging out again. I miss my favorite customers." Kenzie said ruffling our hair like she used to when we were younger. Chase brushed her hand off and he fixed his hair. Kenzie smiled at us. "Enjoy." She said before walking away to a different table. When she was gone Chase looked at me and laughed. "Your hair." He said. I striked a pose. "Yes, What about my hair?" I said, causing both of us to laugh, as I fixed it.
After we ate, we talked for a long time. We caught up on what we had missed out on when we didn't talk. Chase talked about his parents fighting all the time. That was why he never wanted to be at home. Then earlier this morning, he said it was the first time he'd seen actual affection showing on either of his parents faces in such a long time. I told him details about what the accident was like. Things about it I hadn't even told my parents. Things like the nightmares that came with it. I even told him about this morning when I heard the sirens how I had freaked out until I realized where I was. Chase listened to my stories and I his. How could I have been so stupid to just drop this boy out of my life? He was the best thing to ever happen to me. I just hadn't realized it until now. By the time Kenzie finally came back, everyone else that was there when we got here was gone. "Where did everyone go?" I asked her looking around.
"The diner closed an hour ago." She said. Both Chase and I jumped to our feet. Chase pulled out his wallet to pay for our food, but Kenzie put her hand on his arm. "It's covered, Chase. Don't worry about it." She said. Chase slowly put his wallet back into his pocket and glanced at me. "We should probably go." He said. I nodded and reached for my coat as the cook, Finnigan called, "Don't you wanna stay for the last dance? Just for old times sake?" He smirked at us from over the counter. I met Chase's eyes and shrugged my shoulders. "Sure, why not?" He asked. Finnigan came around the counter, putting in some coins into the jukebox machine. When the song began to play, Finnigan walked over and offered Kenzie his hand, which she took gladly. The few other employees joining in as well. Once they had began dancing Chase turned to me with a goofy grin on his face. I giggled as I met his eyes again. "What?" I asked. Chase offered me his hand.
"Alanna Larson, may I have this dance?" He asked. I laughed and took his hand. "You may." I replied. And then we were dancing. Chase pulled me right into the middle of the diner, where the tables had been pushed away and the employees danced around us. Chase's left hand held my waist gently, his other cupping my smaller hand to the side. As we swayed back and forth dancing, all I could think was, Is this really happening? For some reason I could not wrap my mind around the fact this was happening. I don't know what was going on in Chase's mind, but from the way his eyes never left mine, I was guessing he was thinking something similar. Then came the turn. The point in the dance when the 'boy' spins the 'girl' around. And of course given my luck, as soon as Chase spun me, my ankle decided to betray me. I started falling, but Chase caught me in one swift motion, the thoughtful look had vanished. It had been replaced with a look of concern. "Alanna? Are you okay?" He asked. I could feel the employees watching us. I opened my mouth to answer Chase when I noticed something hanging right above his head. Chase stood me back up, I shifted so all of my weight was on the one good ankle, and then he looked up. After a moment, he looked back down at me, but I had turned away. Chase's fingers touched my chin, turning my face to look at him. There was a huge smirk on his face, I could feel myself start to blush but then the next thing I knew, His lips touched mine.
Something exploded inside of me. I don't know what it was, but all at once it happened. The warm tingly feeling? Yeah, I had it all over. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pressing our lips tighter against each other. Chase's arms wrapped around my middle holding me as close as he could. When we finally pulled apart for air, he pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." He said. I stared into his beautiful sparkling blue eyes, and I smiled.
"If it's anywhere as long as I've wanted you too, then it's been quite some time." I said. As soon as the words left my mouth I realized they were true. I was, always had been, in love with Chase Wilkinson.
