THE NIGHT OF THE PARTY

ELIXIR’S POV

This night will fulfill the wish that I was yearning for so long. Since I was born I know that I was destined to be a soldier, to be a warrior in the battlefield. It was a desire that I had ever since but can only appease it through training myself restlessly. I did everything to be ready as a soldier anything to equip myself. Finally…the time has finally come.

I don’t really care about the party, the thoughts that are mainly running in my mind is that tonight I will finally become part of the Rustdo army. I hurriedly wore the customary royal attire and was assisted by my butler Borris who is already at his 40s and was with me ever since I was a baby. He is someone who became my second father, and he also treated me like his very own son because he was a palace servant ever since and didn’t had a chance to have his own family.

“I’m so proud of you Sir Elixir. I know that you have waited for this for such a long time.” Borris said thoughtfully while fastening medals in my jacket

“I told you to just call me by my name.” I smiled at him and I was ready to go

“When you get back I will be calling you Commander Elixir I suppose.” Borris proudly said while I walk towards the door and looked back to flash a appreciative smile at him

I entered the great hall filled with people, everyone wore their best attires and I suppose everyone is a noble or someone from the upper class. When my presence was announced by the palace guard all the attention was suddenly focused on me.

“I need to endure this for a night.” I whispered inaudibly while forcing a smile and shaking the hands of the people who are approaching me. Somehow I was able to reach the royal dinner table where my family is seated. 

“I congratulate you my son.” My father motioned me to seat beside him while he flash his proud smile towards me

“I ask for the attention of everyone, my son Prince Elixir is now thirteen years old and that officially puts him in the right age to join the Rustdo Military. I’m pleased to announce that he would be assigned to be a commander of a newly formed squad composed of the new recruits of the military. I hope great things from you my son!” father patted my back and smiled at me proudly while he raised his glass

“My baby boy is finally a young man.” Mother said while leaning over to kiss me

“Happy Birthday brother! I will give your present later!” my sister squealed

The party was far more than what I have expected. It seems that father and mother went overboard this time because this was more extravagant than a normal palace celebration. I took my time greeting guests who are all showering me with their praises and congratulations. Suddenly the great hall went dim and the orchestra played a romantic piece. Couples in the room went to the ballroom. I saw my sister talking to a boy seemingly asking her to dance. I was irritated with the thought that my sister will have her first dance with anyone but not me. I moved closer to them to hear their conversation.

“I also admire my brother. He works so hard every day!” Anya said to the blonde boy

“I also want to be a soldier someday and from the stories that I hear from my father he is even greater than the older soldiers in the army! I want to be like him!” the boy responded while grinning

“I can ask my brother to meet you.” Anya said while peering at the now nervous young boy

“I don’t know. I’m nervous.” He whispered while staring at the marble ground

“What are you two talking about?” I can’t help but smile looking at the surprised expressions of them

“Well, brother we are just talking about the things we have in common.” Anya tried to lie but of course I heard their conversation about me from the start

“What is your name?” I looked at the boy staring at the ground

“My..name..is Stan Ar..way sir!!” the boy stuttered but I was surprised when he looked at me straight in the eyes and I can sense his determination

“Are you possibly interested in joining the army in the future?” I asked him while he stared at me with disbelief

“Of course I do sir!” he looked at me with light in his eyes it seems that all his shyness was erased by that question

“I hope that you’ll be willing to be part of my squad when that time comes” I said while grabbing the hand of my sister who was also stunned by my sudden proposal

“I’m much honored sir!” the boy shouted while I flashed a smile at him and walked away with my sister

We slipped away from the great hall away from the noisy chatters of the people in the party.

“You heard our conversation am I right?” Anya flashed me a haughty look

“The conversation of you and your new friend fawning over me? I did.” I flashed a knowing smile while still holding her hand

“Oh you love flattery so much. Here is your gift by the way!” Anya presented me a box with a blue ribbon wrapped around it

I took the little box from her and opened it. Inside there was a vintage compass with intricate details with my name carved behind it.

“Why a compass?” I asked her with a satisfied smile

“You will soon be part of the military, and if somehow you get lost, not that I want it anyway. This will help you find your way back.” She said while staring at me
