I saw him first

Chapter Four: Cafè

I hated home-work, the only time I could stand it was when Lucas came over to help me, but he seemed to be busy as i had been waiting for a good couple of hours, now I simply gave up. Used to being left behind, and or alone. So when I went to school the next day I wasn't so surprised seeing him and maya doing their weird cute little flirty thingy which had me feeling jealous. His eyes strayed to mine for a moment before they went back to looking at Riley. Rolling my eyes I brush past them before going and laying my face on the desk and letting out a tired groan.

"What's wrong maya?" I hear Riley say.

"It's nothing just tired." I whisper back still face down in my desk so it comes out muffled.

"Did you stay up doing homework?" Farkle asks.

I turn in my seat, casting a glare at him, before glancing at Lucas whose frowning down at his phone.

"No I guess you could say I couldn't be bothered." I whisper.

Seeing lucas wince before I'm looking back in front of me, just as mr.mathews walks in a chipper smile on his face. I could tell today's lesson was going to be just as difficult as last nights so at first I tried really hard to listen, but gave up as it continued to confuse me. So I started to loose focus thinking about other things, like what I was supposed to make tonight for dinner since I knew my mother wasn't gong to be home and for once I didn't have detention. When I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning I lol into Lucas's blue, blue eyes, that seem to sparkle like the ocean when the sun hits it just right.

"Howdy ranger Roy" I say only slightly glaring.

"It's time to turn in the homework from last night." He says nodding to the front.

I sigh turning back around and laying my head on my desk. "I already said I just couldn't be bothered." I shrug my shoulders again, but the searing pain in my heart gives way to how I really feel.

As lunchtime comes around I sit in-between Farkle and Riley, for once not having Lucas sit in-between Riley and me. He notices because the moment he sits down he's leaning forward to send me a questioning look. I ignore it instead continue to nibble at my food, knowing its all I'll have until tomorrow.

"Maya do you want to come the little cafe downstairs with me today?"

"Sure I'd love to" I smile.

Looking up from my plate to give my bestfriend a huge grin, not wanting her to question how I'm feeling or know that I have some sort of feeling toward Lucas. At this moment he tries to say something to me, but I go back to eating ignoring whatever he says. Oh how I shouldn't listened.

As the bell rings for the end of the day and everyone gathers there things, I can see Riley struggling to open her locker, so I come give her a hand. She smokes gratefully wrapping me in a hug, to which I return having missed this closeness of ours.

"Okay so we will wait for you at the cafe alright?"

"What do you mean wait for me?" I ask pulling on my back pack just to see that Lucas, and Farkle have come to stand next to Riley.

"Well don't you have detention?" Riley asks.

"I don't actually" I say smiling as Riley claps for me. 

"I was trying to tell you guys, but someone wasn't listening so they couldn't help me out." Lucas says directing that Last part at me.

I step up close to him, getting on my tip toes "Sorry ranger Rick but all I hear when you speak is. Ha hurrr" I speak loudly causing his hair to blow back.

He smiles a but as I step away. Riley takes my arm then, and we lead the way to the cafe with Farkle and Lucas trailing after us. Getting to the cafe we sit down to where Riley and Lucas sit opposite me and Farkle, however this seating arrangement has it so that I have to look into Lucas's eyes. So for the time period that we're all sitting together I keep looking everywhere but at him. Thigh I do enjoy teasing him and everyone else. So much that I don't notice the time slipping by. It's 7:30 and I know my mum doesn't get home until much later but I still need to get home.

"This has been fun my friends, but i need to go home now" I say waving and slipping out of the both before rushing out of the cafe.

"Maya wait up!" I hear Lucas yell.

So I slow down before looking over my shoulder, and then he's there right up next to me smiling down at me.

"What do you want ranger Rick?" I ask softly.

"To walk you home, so come on" he sighs taking my hand and leading the way.

And while he does this I can't help the smile that's on my face as I follow after him.
