Chapter two:

“She is right you know, you can easily pass for her- no-one but me and her aunt in Boston would know. Beside Miss Catherina she needs this so she may rest in peace. The idea that the killer will get what he wants is eating away at her soul. You will correct an injustice” Said Mrs Cannes who was grieving in the dark corner of the room. Her eyes were red and puffy and her hair was loose as her cap felt off. She has  quietly been grieving in the dark corner watching the interaction between the two young ladies.

“I am sorry Mrs Cannes and Lady Sarah, but my conscious would never allow it. Deception and gaining a wealth that is not mine are heavy burdens to carry. My father would be disappointed. Besides now more than ever my services are needed here in Whitechapel, with no hospital and no doctor willing to come here, the people will have no medical care”

Sarah watched Catherina from under her heavy lids and saw her selfless nature and courageousness. She envied her righteousness and strong sense of duty. Her own short, yet happy life was selfish and full of silliness. She never had a strong purpose or character. All she ever wanted was to go shopping, have tea parties, and dance during the season showing off her vanity. Her sole aim was to capture a wealthy gentleman and be married to continue her lavish lifestyle. Here now she encounters this beautiful, strong young female, that practices medicine in society that shuns educated women and yet refusing wealth and statues so she may continue working in poverty offering medical help to those that may shun her and ridicule her. She was at awestruck of Catherina.

“Catherina, this wealth belongs to me and I freely grant it to you. Think of all the good you may do with it. Hospitals and doctors for all poor areas in London? And many more. Please accept my gift to you for your kindness and comfort” Those were Sarah’s last words.

Catherina closed her eye lids and Mrs Cannes recited some prayers and covered her face.

Lawyer’s office

In a large building, there was small office that contained a large desk surrounded by multiple cabinets, files and papers. The office was the office of Johnson and Bennett lawyers’ clerk. The elderly clerk set at his desk writing at a profound speed for his age, but experience and expertise was noted on his person.  In this small office there came a slight knock and a young messenger boy entered.

“Sir, a Lady Sarah Lieven McCartney and her chaperon await your attention” The boy said.

The clerk dropped his pen and stood up. He was indecisive whether to run to Mr Johnson or Mr Bennett as both have strongly expressed that they need to be made aware of Lady Sarah’s arrival at the office. The clerk has witnessed many disputes between the lawyers but this one he knew little off. He was a curious man.

“Bring them to me Nickolas” The boy left and in a few moments returned followed by two fashionably dressed women. His small office suddenly appeared smaller than ever and the clerk was embarrassed by his mess.

He stood up and approached the younger of the two women noticing she had regal and aristocracy features and distinguished airing about her. Although she looked as delicate as winter flower he sensed presence and strength.

“Lady Sarah Lieven McCartney, my pleasure to have you. May I offer you both a seat”

“And you are Mr...?” The young woman asked, her voice carrying a clear authority. He suddenly felt ashamed in calling her into his office. The social elite always go directly to either Mr Johnson or Bennett.

“I am Charles Midgley, the clerk of this office my Lady. May I ask which of the esteemed lawyers you would like to see” He asked after he seated both women.
