Selina Kyle was never like other girls. Other little girls played with Barbie dolls and wore the colour pink. She never had the option of playing with
dolls or choosing her attire, she had very little. Her mother ran off when she was young, abandoning her. All Selina has left of her is a locket with her picture inside it.
She grew up on her own, living on the streets of Gotham. She befriended the other homeless children on rare occasion. Due to everyone leaving, Selina developed major trust issues. Everyone knew her as "Cat".
During one chilly, dark, cloudy night, Selina walked fast paced through the swarm of Gothamites. She flicked open her 7" switch blade and slit open a random woman's paper grocery bag. Eggs splattered on the pavement, cans rolled down the sidewalk, assorted fruits and groceries were scattered everywhere.
As the woman bent down, distressed, scrounging to gather her groceries, Selina picked up a quart of milk and stuffed into the front of her jacket, never breaking pace. She walked by and carefully swiped the wallet out of some guys back pocket.
Just as she felt relieved he didn't catch her she heard the man shout, "Hey! She took my wallet!" Selina's eyes widened and she started sprinting down the sidewalk, shoving through people. She turned into an ally and leaned against a wall. The man ran past her and she sighed, relieved.
She pulled out the quart of milk and poured it into a small dish lying on the ground for the street cats to drink. Selina reached down and scratched a black kitten behind its ears, making it purr with delight.
Selina's ears perked up at the sound of footsteps and laughing. Alarmed, she climbed up a rusty fire escape. Below she saw the infamous Wayne family, chattering happily as they walked down the alley.
Is that what having a family is like? She asked herself, observing them as if they were a rare specimen. A man walked down the alley and halted them with a gun.
"Stay Calm Bruce," Thomas Wayne said as he put an arm infront of his child.
"Give me your money!" The thug said, wielding the gun at Bruce.
"No problem." Thomas said, handing him his wallet. "We're cooperating."
Selina slunk bank onto the fire escape, her eyes widening with fear the event unfolding before her emerald eyes.
The mugger turned his gun to Martha, "The necklace." he demanded. Bruce watched in fear.
She shakily hand him her pearl necklace. The thief quickly tried to put it in his back pocket, accidentally dropping it. Pearls scattered across the pavement, rolling In every church direction.
"Easy." Thomas said, taking a step infront of Bruce. In what seemed like slow motion the man fired the gun, shooting Thomas and Martha Wayne in the chest. Their bodies hit the ground with two thuds. Selina watched in horror as he pointed the gun at Bruce. Instead of shooting he lowered it and ran away.
"Mom, Mom!" He cried out, shaking his mothers lifeless body. "Dad, Dad!" he looked into his fathers lifeless eyes as he passed. Selina watched with her mouth partially open as Bruce removed his hands from his fathers chest, looking at them shakily. He fell into the Crimson pool of blood and let out a deafening scream of pain and agony. This was the start of a new era.
