They Didn't Notice

He laughed,

Even though it wasn't funny

He smiled,

But he wasn't happy

They didn't notice

Notice how his smile would falter

Or how he lost the spring in his step

They didn't notice how the sparkle in his eyes,

Disappeared

And they didn't see how there was a fresh mark everyday

A new rim of red under his eyes

Each bump and bruise was over looked

Everyday his eyes dulled, until they were full of nothing

Each day the void grew, the feeling of emptiness numbing his body

Each step he took was full of despair

His life had no goal,

No moral

No hope

He was faking his smile

Forcing his laugh

But,

They didn't notice
