Chapter 17 – The Breakfast Club

Rosie’s P.O.V.

“Rosie, I swear, one day you’re going to be the death of me!” Zayn half laughed, half complained, letting himself fall on my bed. I laughed at his comment and shook my head, searching deeper through my closet. “Really, Rose, if you spend one more second hidden in the wardrobe, I’ll leave and never have breakfast with you!”

“I’m not hidden. I just have nothing to wear!” I whined, throwing a pair of jeans behind my back.

“For God’s sake, you have room full of clothes! Come on, pick something simple and move over here, I’m starving,” Zayn replied. I could hear him shuffling to find the remote controller. At least he figured out I was going to spend some time there. However, I listened to him and chose a pair of denim jeans and a plain white T-shirt. Maybe he was right, maybe I should’ve decide on something like this minutes before, when he had come in my room to pick me for our breakfast.

I got out of the closet and took my phone and my keys and motioned Zayn to go. He threw his hands in the air and mumbled a “You could’ve do this long before!”, but I gave him an innocent look, which he shook his head to.

We got out of my hotel room (which was more like an apartment) and I locked it before we made our way towards the hotel’s restaurant.it was a fairly large hall very nicely decorated, just like the hotel itself, with glass walls and modern furniture. Once we got there, we sat at our usual table, in a private booth. The always-friendly waiters followed us like lost puppies, with menus in their hands and fake sweet smiles on their faces. After we’ve been told about thousands of ‘chef’s specialties’ whose names I couldn’t even pronounce and other different types of fancy food, Zayn and I went for the old pancakes with lots of syrup and butter and a glass of orange juice. I personally hated it when people thought that, just because we were public persons, we ate only food with strange names and even stranger ingredients. After a few years in that world, I’d learnt that most of us would rather have some normal things to remind them of their life back at home than all the luxurious things everyone thinks we love.

“So, have you thought of what I’ve told you?” I asked, taking a bite of my delicious food. Zayn gave me a confused look as he tried his pancakes, as well. “About the song…?” I continued.

“What song?” he replied, obviously trying to avoid the subject.

“The song you’ve written,”

“Oh… That song… Well, indeed I’ve thought about it and I don’t think I’m going to tell Jack about it,” Zayn confessed, sipping form his drink. I raised my brow in curiosity and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Why not? It’s an amazing song, Zayn, and you know it!” I protested, not hitting the table with my palms, tone raised. A few waiters that were always watching gave us a hard glare, but turned away shyly as soon as they realized I’d caught them.

“Shh… I just can’t do it. What if the boys will hate it? What if the fans will hate it? What if everyone will hate me? You know about my struggles with fame, I don’t think I could cope with more hateful comments,” he whispered, hurt clearly shadowing his eyes.

“Zayn…” I started, putting my hand on his. “Trust me; they are going to love the song. It’s written from heart and it’s really sweet. I’m sure not only the fans, but the other girls, too, are going to melt when they’ll hear it. And the boys will never be able to hate you, especially not because of a song. You never know how everything is going to be if you don’t try.”

“Thank you, Rosie, you really are a great friend,” Zayn smiled.

“Look, if it makes you feel better, you can come with me on Monday and I will tell Jack about the song. You’ll just have to sing it,” I suggested, and he nodded.

We both went back to our plates full of pancakes, until Zayn broke the silence, with a puzzled face.

“It is that Harry?” he asked, pointing to someone behind me. I turned around only to see the Harry Styles stuffing his mouth with bacon and scrambled eggs. Basically, he was eating like a pig. When he saw us staring at him (along with the whole restaurant), he stopped and waved at us. We avoided his look and awkwardly waved back, embarrassed by our friend. Harry took our friendly gesture as a motioning to come to us, so he stood up, whipped his mouth with a napkin and came over to say ‘Hi”.

“What are you doing here, lovebirds?” he said with a dumb smile. We tried to protest because he’s called us ‘lovebirds’, which we clearly weren’t, but he cut us off immediately. “You came to have breakfast and didn’t invite me? Oh, I get it, it’s a wink,” he whispered the last part, winking. “I hope I don’t interrupt, but I’ll join you, if you don’t mind.”

Zayn opened his mouth to say something, but a few waiters had already found him a seat and brought his plate with food and cup of tea, along with a fork and a knife. Harry sat down and continued his breakfast, but this time staring at us intensely while eating like a pig. The whole scene made both Zayn and I feel very uncomfortable in our seats, shifting every 2 seconds. Every time one of us tried to say something or take a bite of our pancakes, Harry would stare at us like we were mad people.

“What do you want, Harry?” I suddenly broke the awkward silence, crossing my eyes and glaring at him.

“What, can’t a man join such a nice pair for breakfast?” he simply shrugged, placing his fork down as he finished his meal. “Oh, look at me, I’ve already finished my food. Go on, eat ‘em before they get too cold,” he smiled sweetly and motioned us to eat our pancakes while he was watching us, his chin resting on his palms. Instead of fighting, I decided to ignore Harry and eat my pancakes.

“What are you up to today?” Zayn tried to make some conversation with Harry while eating. This way, maybe he could get rid of him.

“Oh, nothing special, just hang out here and there…Why, would you like me to join you?” As soon as I heard these words, I widened my eyes and shook my head to Zayn, hoping he’d remember about our plans and don’t tag the other boy along.

“Um, not really, we have already made some plans…”Zayn tried to explain. Harry’s hopeful smile faded away quickly and he lowered his gaze, slowly nodding in acceptance. “It’s ok, I got it, guys… I bet you don’t even want me here. No one does… you could’ve told me instead of leading me on like this. But it’s ok…” he said, slowly shifting in his seat, like he wanted to leave.

Zayn shot me a pleading look, trying to convince me not to let Harry go. I rolled my eyes at his cheap behavior and tried to avoid his suggestion. By this time, he was already up, pretending to look after his phone. Zayn kicked me under the table, signaling me to do something soon. I managed not to yelp in pain and turned to Harry.

“But I’m sure you could join ‘em, too,” I said with a fake smile.
