My hands gripped Adrianna's waist as I pulled her backwards onto my chest, both of us tumbling onto the ground.  "What the hell are you trying to do?" I asked through gritted teeth, the rain dripping off my hair and onto my face.

I looked slightly beyond my limits today, my artbag slung over my arm instead of in my bookbag, my eyebrows furrowed and hair ruffled to the point where I looked pissed.

When Adrianna didn't say anything
I realized the position we were in. I sitting up in the grass with her in my arms bridal style. "Say something," I demanded. She broke down into tears.

"E-ever-ry o-one h-h-hates me!" I winced at the word hate. "I don't hate you." I said softly and rocked her back and forth. I had been taught from my mother to never piss a girl off when she's crying. Three words.

Snap. Crackle. Pop.

"I don't hate you." I said softly. She looked up at me hopefully, the trails of her wet makeup making a black zigzag across her pale face.

"You don't?"

I shook my head and placed my chin on the top of her head. Closing my eyes, I felt her tense shoulders loosen.
"I'm scared." Adrianna whispered. I asksd, “Of what?"

But I knew the answer, and it was exactly what she had said afterwards. Life. Every second of it could either kill you or make you smile. I bit my lip.

"When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful. Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart. And when she was sad, I was there to dry her tears. And when she was happy, so was I.”

My singing wasn't perfect, unbalanced even. But that was the only song I knew by heart. Adrianna giggled. "Was that from Toy Story 2?"

Grinning, I gave her a silent answer. I stood up, accidentally letting her fall onto the grass.  My eyes widened in fake shock and I laughed. "What it's my favorite movie," I commented, helping her up.

All she did was pull me back again and I let out an unexpected giggle. Adrianna raised an eyebrow. "Was it me or did you just giggle?" She asked. I muttered and shook my head.

"You must be hearing things." I said quickly, and tugged her up.

"Thanks for letting me stay over for a little." Adrianna sighed as she sipped the tea, and I nodded. I looked up over Adrianna's head only to meet eyes with Charlie, who was at the top of the stairs.

I cursed under my breath. I forgot he was here. "Spen, I had a nightmare and it's raining." Charlie whimpered, and Adrianna looked behind her.

I could hear her 'aw' at him in his puppy-patterned pyjamas and long tangle of hair. "Adrianna, this is Charlie, my little brother. Charlie this is Adrianna, my-"

Charlie quickly interrupted me and plopped quickly down the stairs. "Your girlfriend?" He asked. I realized why I never let girls over to my house. My face turned red. I wanted to say yes.

"N-no, just a friend." I added, and Charlie stared at me, possibly checking for a lie. Adrianna raised an eyebrow as he sat beside me. "Any other suprises I have to worry about?" She joked, setting the tea down on the coffee table.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Only Theodore, and he's always in his room." Adrianna nodded and I bit my lip looking down.

I hate when people just nodded, because it made the conversation more awkward. But who could hate Adrianna?

"You wanna watch a movie?" Charlie asked, and Adrianna nodded eagerly. Charlie got up and pulled at her hand, making her kneel down beside him as he pulled a few movies off of the shelf.

"D-do you w-wanna watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?" Charlie hiccuped, and I was thankful for his cute mood. Adrianna cooed and looked at me and I smiled.

While she helped him put the movie in and start it, I looked at my phone.

Theo - Who is that girl downstairs? She sounds cute. Introduce me, please :(

I snorted, but replied back.

No thank you sir. Might want to abort mission.

Near the middle of the movie I saw that Charlie had fell asleep beside Adrianna who was staring at the TV, obviously hooked.

"Adrianna," I whispered, knowing that Charlie was a light sleeper. She cocked an eyebrow and nodded. "Do you want to text your friend back? She's probably worried."

She sighed and got her phone out, and by the way it lit up it seemed as if she had eighty text messages. Her eyes widened in alarm as she looked at the time.

It was three hours past when school had ended. My phone lit up and I sighed in annoyance as I looked down. I frowned as I saw a silver play button somebody had sent to me on iChat, no doubt anonymous.

As I watched the video in utter silence, tears pricked my eyes. "Uhm, I was wondering if you would wanna go out with me?"
"Ew! No thank you."
"He's so ugly. And he's a nerd."
"Fuck you, go somewhere."
"Nobody would ever want to go out with you, you geek."
"No wonder he's suicidal, nobody cares about him."

Out of pure anger, I slammed the phone to the ground and with no doubt, it shattered into pieces. Adrianna's eyes widened and she looked up.

"Hey, Spencer, what's wr-" Adrianna started, but I abruptly got up from the couch. "Just go." I said coldly. It burned saying those words to her, but I just had too.

I walked out the door, my eyes stained with tears. The rain made it worse. I kicked at the sidewalk, my yells muffled by pouring rainwater. I quickly got into my car, tears rushing down my face as I turned on the radio.

"Life's too short to even care at all, oh. I'm losing my mind, losing my mind, losing control, oh."

My fingers tapped against the steering wheel as I scrunched my eyes closed. And for the first time in a year, I, Spencer Elliot Angelou, let my guard down. For the first time in a year, I cried my eyes out, screamed, yelled, and kicked.

For the first time in three years, I, Spencer Angelou, was weak.
