Louis's POV
I sighed and sipped my hot tea, looking out the window at the swirling snow outside. I felt a pang in my heart. Usually, Liam would be snuggling up next to me, and we'd joke around, or maybe go outside in the freezing snow and play around.
But this year, I'm here by myself. No, he didn't break up with me, we are still together. But Liam is overseas in Afghanistan, serving the army. He's supposed to come back in March next year.
So I'm spending my birthday and Christmas alone this year.
Well not entirely alone, I'll still have my best mates with me, Niall and Zayn, who are engaged, and Harry who's dating a lovely girl named Alaina.
I wouldn't be so sad, except for the fact that tomorrow is mine and Liam's two year anniversary. And I don't get to contact him at all. Not a letter, not a Skype. Nothing.
But two days ago, I received a letter from him. I haven't let go of the letter since.
I shivered and pulled the blanket tighter around me and started reading the letter for about the thousandth time since I've gotten it. I have it memorized by heart. I know it sounds clingy, but it's the only thing I have of him.
Dear Louis,
I miss you. Words can't even describe how much I miss you. I miss your cuddles at night, I miss the way you try to cook in the mornings, I miss your smile, I miss your eyes, I miss hearing your voice, I miss your kisses, I miss your laugh, I miss you playing pranks on me, I miss your hugs. I hope that gives you an idea.
I love you Louis, I love you so much. I can't wait until March, so I can see you again. I'm never going to let you go.
I'm sorry Lou, that you have to spend your birthday and Christmas and New Years alone. So, happy birthday, baby. And Merry Christmas, too.
But what makes me the most sad is that we don't get to spend our two year anniversary together. I'm so sorry Louis, for leaving you alone.
I love you. And I promise I will be back soon. Happy two years, baby.
Love,
Your Liam
As I finished, a tear dropped on the paper, leaving a little wet mark. I sighed and got up from the window bench and put my teacup in the sink.
I grabbed the letter and turned off the lights, heading upstairs.
I climbed into my warm inviting bed and pulled the soft duvet blankets on top of me, snuggling into them.
As I layed there in the dark, I let the tears fall freely. I try not to show my emotions in front of the lads, because they try and cheer my up, though it often fails. So at night when I'm alone is the time where I can cry without being disturbed.
I guess drowsiness got the better of me, and I slipped into a deep sleep, thinking about my precious Liam.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was awakened my someone jumping up and down on my bed, yelling at me repeatedly. "Louis, Louis! Get up!"
I groaned and slowly peeled one eye open, and saw that it was the blonde Irish bloke known as Niall.
In response to his yelling, I threw a pillow at him. He just laughed.
He threw it back at me and it hit me in the head. I grumbled a few profanities and slowly sat up.
"Niall, what could you possibly want?" I asked irritably. He jumped in bed next to me.
"Just thought I'd give you some company," he said. "Oh, and Zayn's here too, he's cooking breakfast."
"Why would I need..." I trailed off, the date suddenly dawning on me. December 4th. Me and Liam's anniversary.
I burst into tears. Niall instantly wrapped his arms around me, rocking me gently. I buried my face in his chest, making absolutely no attempt to stop the tears.
That's when Zayn came up, holding a tray with food on it. When he saw me crying and Niall comforting me, he put the tray down and joined our little pile.
"Oh, Lou! Please don't cry! It'll be alright," he cooed.
Eventually, my sobs turned into hiccups. "I'm sorry, guys." I croaked weakly.
"It's alright, love." Niall said comfortingly. "I understand,"
I shook my head. No one can understand.
I went to my bathroom and got cleaned up. When I came back to my room, I saw Niall on top of Zayn, snogging each other. I blushed and cleared my throat.
They both shot up and blushed. "Sorry, mate." Zayn said, straightening out his shirt. I just waved it off.
They told me that we were meeting Alaina and Harry at the mall. I reluctantly agreed. I really didn't feel like going anywhere. I just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry.
Once we got to the mall, we joined Harry and Alaina at the food court.
Alaina smiled gently at me and gave a a tight hug. She was very pretty, curly jet black hair down to her waist, striking blue eyes, and freckled splattered across her nose and cheeks.
She gripped me by the shoulders and said, "Lou, how are you holding up?"
I just shook my head, not trusting my voice. A single tear slipped down my cheek. She wiped it away with her thumb. Haz gave me a hug and we all wandered around together, Alaina holding on to my arm. This is why Alaina's the best, she always knows what to do, and I was grateful for the support.
After a couple hours, we all got bored. Alaina and Haz went back to their flat, and Zayn and Niall dropped me off at mine.
I immediately went to the couch and curled into a ball, turning the telly on but not watching.
After about 20 minutes of me mindlessly staring at the television, there was a knock at the door. I really didn't feel like getting up, but I went to the door anyway.
I looked down as I swung open the door, not looking up. But instead of sneakers or snow boots, I saw a pair of army boots.
My heart stopped. My gaze slowly traveled upwards, skimming over an army suit. Finally, I stopped at the face, and was met by Liam's gorgeous face.
"Liam," I whispered hoarsely.
"Happy two year anniversary, baby!" He smiled and picked me up and spinned me around. I clung to his neck and started crying again, but this time the tears were of happiness.
"Liam, I missed you so much." I cried.
"Baby, I missed you too," he said. He lifted my chin up with his fingers and leaned down. I and leaned up and our lips met in the middle.
I kissed him fiercely, not being able to have done that for eight months. He kissed back equally as forceful as me. I swiped my tongue against his lip and he eagerly opened up. Our tongues did not fight for dominance, just danced around.
Unfortunately, I had to pull away. I looked up at him, my hands still around his neck.
"I love you, Liam,"
"I love you too, Louis. And I'm never leaving you again."
