"You care much for this girl?"
It was a voice. A voice that came from within me. A dark but warm voice.
"Who are you?" I asked aloud.
"I am the essence of the Knight of the Galaxy. To help you understand, I am you. A part of your subconscious. I was born within you. I've been asleep since your birth. Now, I have awaken. I see you. Who you once were, what you've done. All the sins and kind deeds you've committed."
"You're the KG?" I muttered in awe. "Then you can save her, right?" I looked down painfully at Hanako's limp body.
"It's not impossible for me to save her. But, I can see her future. She is destined to die prematurely. Even if I were to revive her now, she'd surely die again soon."
"You don't know that!" I yelled angrily at the KG's rubbish. "I'll save her! I'll protect her! I'll change her fate. You watch, KG, I'm going to save her. She won't die."
"I understand your frustration. But, I also understand your determination. It's foolish but admirable. You've peaked my curiosity. Can you really defy the power of fate?"
"I don't care. Bring her back to life!"
"I shall obey your wish. But heed my warning. This power can be only used once over a period of time. It has a cool-down period so I may be able to use it again in the future. It'll take years. for me to regain this power. This girl will die before the cool-down period ends. Knowing that, do you understand and wish to continue?"
"You're telling me that even if I bring her back now, this power will disappear for a long time, possibly long after Hanako's death, so that I couldn't revive her again? Why... Why does she have to die? How could this world kill the little innocence and purity it has left?" I could feel angry tears welling in my eyes.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you that. Even the future is hazy for me. The future is constantly changing from the light of hearts that are brought into this world. I don't have the power to change the future. But you do."
"I don't understand what you're saying... You're telling me I can save Hanako?"
"Not only her, but many of your comrades. Your friends. They will all die before your time. It is not impossible to save them. I cannot tell you how. You will have to find the answers yourself. Only you can find the truth."
"They're all going to die...? This is like a curse... This is insane... What do you mean by the truth?"
"I'm afraid I can't answer that. My time is over for now. I must rest. I cannot journey with you for long. Even I will die soon."
"Wait, if you die, doesn't that mean I will too?" I waited, but there was no answer. But, my body started glowing again, and so was Hanako's. I saw her wound closing. She began breathing strongly. I should've been happy, but I felt guilty. I revived Hanako just so she could suffer and die again? No, I'm going to save her. I'm going to give her the best damn life any human has ever lived. If I can't save her, I don't want her to have any regrets.
With my head spinning over the KG's words, I picked Hanako up into my arms. My body felt numb, but knowing that Hanako was alive now invigorated me to keep moving forward. My legs were shaking, and I could only move as slow as a snail, but I was able to retreat from the room and out another passageway. No doubt Izanagi and Keira would come for me again.
I stumbled aimlessly through the dark tunnels, with no light to guide me. I can't remember how long I had been walking through the same tunnel without any turns or intersections. It went straight into seemingly forever. I had thought this was the trail into the underworld.
