Chapter Cuatro: I'm Not A Fish
The class was well but I was still upset with Olivia. When class was over, I quickly got up not wanting to look or talk to her. I threw my backpack over my shoulder and walked to my last class of the day, math. That I just so happen to share with Jackson. I sighed deeply and walked to my class, Jackson was sitting there laughing with one of his friends and I sat next to the desk next him. He looked at me and smiled and I smiled back. He turned to face me."Hey best friend," he said smiling and I chuckled.
"Hey Jackson." I said and he smiled at me.
"Wanna hear a joke?" He said smirking.
"Sure, why not." I said.
"Your life." He smiled then burst out laughing. I couldn't help but laugh as well, Jackson and I have been friends for about 12 years. So I can stand his cheesy jokes. We laughed then he smiled at me.
"Want to hang out after school today? Just the two of us?" he asked and I sighed deeply.
"I can't today Jackson, I'm helping coach choose with the boy swim team." I said and he nodded. "Maybe Friday after tryouts?" he smiled.
"Yeah! We can have a movie night too!" he said and I smiled and the teacher walked in.

"God I hate math." I said as I walked towards my locker with Jackson by my side."Me too, Arte, me too." he said. We reached our lockers which just so happen to be near each other. I opened my locker and took out my swim clothes. Ever since sophomore year coach had always asked me to help him pick out the boys for the male swim team. Jackson walked me all the way to swim team lounge before giving me a speech about how not to stare at the guys then left. I shook my head as I went to the girls locker room to change into my blue swimsuit. I put my silver hair into a fishtail braid and slipped on my oversized sweatshirt as a coverup. I walked out of there and towards my swim coach.
"Hey coach." I said smiling at my coach.
"Hey kiddo." he said as he patted my head awkwardly. I chuckled then sat next to him.
"How many guys trying out?" I asked and he shrugged.
"Don't know." He said and I nodded then slumped back in my seat. My father and coach have been friends for the longest times but I have to call him coach during school hours. As the boys slowly came in, I recognized a few from the past years and they gave me a smile. There was one that really stood out which made me frown, his brown messy curly hair that was all to familiar. I scowled when my eyes landed on him, he looked my way and scowled at me which coach noticed.
"Is everything okay between you too?" he asked with a stern voice and I nodded.
"Everything's fine and you know me even if we did. It wouldn't interfere." I said and he smiled nodding.
"Good," he got up and looked at all the males, "boys this is tryouts and for tryouts you know I have my trusty sidekick, Artemis. To help me choose the best swimmers. Since she is the best." that compliment made me smile, "you will do your warm ups with her." I got up from my seat and walked to the guys.
"My name is Artemis as most of you guys know. I am delighted to be here right now and not doing my homework right now." I heard some guys chuckle and I looked at Connor who was scowling straight at me. I cleared my throat, "let's start with drills." I instructed the boys what to do with warms ups. I did it with them of course because I will be swimming as well. As they were warming up I slipped off my coverup and handed it to coach. After warm ups I told the boys to do ten laps in the water as I sit on the other side waiting for them. During all of this Connor was the fastest during the laps and I frowned. When the guys finished warm ups which was basically try outs, when tryouts where done Connor came up to me.
"I bet I can beat you in a swimming race." he said and I scoffed.
"You wish you could beat me." I said crossing my arms.
"On the contrary, silver. I know I'll win." he said confidently.
"Really? Why don't we race right now!" I snapped at him and he chuckled.
"Okay." he said as he got into position and I quickly asked coach to tell us when to go so it would be fair. The guys that were left stood around us and watched Connor and I get into position.
"On your mark get set SWIM!" the coach shouted and I plunged into the comforting water and swam my heart out. the water filled my lungs and it felt like I could breathe underwater but that was impossible. I swam faster and until my head collided with the wall and I poked my head out only to see the guys with a bewildered expression. I looked around and saw Connor halfway though. I smirked triumphantly and got up and sat on the edge. When Connor arrived to where I was at he looked so pissed.
"Is she a fish?!" he practically screamed and the rest of the guys shrugged and looked at me.
"No, I'm not a fish." I said and smiled.
"Are you sure Artemis? I mean you swam really fast." coach said and I nodded.
"Yes I'm sure, I'm pretty sure I'm not a fish." I say as I got up and I swear I heard Connor mumble she's a freaking fish. I smile and grab a towel and wrap it around myself as the guys high five me.
"That was amazing fish!" a familiar face said and I scowled at the nickname.
"Don't call me fish Justin." I said and he nodded.
"Of course Artemis." I nodded then grabbed my bag and walked to coach.
"I'll text you later tonight who got in but Connor and the ones from last year definitely got in." I said and coach nodded. I smiled at him and walked out of there and towards my home.
