Charlie wasn't sure if she was asleep or awake because when she opened her eyes, her bedroom didn't look the same, and pop music was playing. Also, Matt was pulling a t-shirt on.

"Wow, didn't think I'd be kicking my birthday off like this." Charlie yawned and looked over when she heard Matt hit his dresser. "You okay?"

Even though he was rubbing his elbow, Matt nodded and gave her a thumbs up. "Happy Birthday."

"Thanks, is it bad I don't even remember moving from the living room to your room?" Charlie stood up and grabbed her clothes out of her bag. "You and Aiden are coming for dinner, right?" She turned her head to see him sitting at his desk and smiled when he nodded.

"Cool, and Dad'll probably question you guys." She warned him, slowly making her way to the bathroom to change. "And he may flat out ask if either of you plan on dating me."

Matt stuck his tongue out, and vigorously shook his head. "No."

"Couldn't pretend to think about it?" She reached out and messed up his bedhead. "Brush your hair, or you'll get a rat's nest."

Five minutes later, the pair was leaving Matt's home and walking to the Lawrence residence even though Charlie tried to convince Matt she was capable of walking by herself. She gave in when Matt signed that he wanted to keep hanging out.

"So how did you get into Pretty Little Liars?" Charlie asked after a few minutes of peaceful silence.

"B watches it, and got me hooked but don't tell her. I haven't read the books yet."

"There's books?"

"Yeah, B owns them."

"And you haven't read them?"

"Listen."

Charlie laughed and shook her head. "I thought you always read the book first because it's better."

"Shut up, at least I read."

"Oh! Alright!" She began walking fast. "I see how it is."

Matt caught up with her and gave her a light shove, which made her laugh again. She was about to continue the conversation when they turned onto her street, and her dad's car was parked in the driveway.

"Oh no, Dad's home." Charlie stopped in front of her neighbor's house. "You don't need to walk me to my door."

Matt raised his eyebrows. "Why?"

"Remember how I told you about my dad's questioning?"

"Got it. See you tonight." He hugged her before turning around.

"Bye! Thanks for the sleepover!" She watched him until he left her sight then finished walking home. "I'm home."

"I'm in the kitchen making pancakes." Dad hollered.

Charlie kicked her shoes off and took them with her to the kitchen. Putting her things can wait. "Chocolate chip?"

"What else?" He smiled at her as he flipped the pancakes in the pan. "Happy Birthday, honey."

"Thank you." She sat at the island and watched him. "Matt and Aiden are still coming over, so please don't embarrass me too much."

"I can't promise anything." He leaned against the counter and studied her face. "I hear you slept over at Matt's."

"Yeah, we were both gonna be home alone and neither of us like doing that, so we had a sleepover," Charlie looked down at her hands. "His house doesn't creak, and the bedroom doors have locks, not just the front and back doors. Matt's only a friend, you don't need to grill him or Aiden."
