Imagine a normal town. Apartments and single homes lining the streets, kids in school uniforms trying to kill time before the busses arrive. Some old people watering their flowers, parents getting the front rooms clean before heading to work, really little kids still in bed. Normal, average, basic.

Now add dragons.
Dragons and fairies and mermaids and demons. Selkies and nymphs and all the different creatures you could imagine.
This is how it's been for the last 15 years. And here's how it happened:

The legends surrounding served as a doorway for the creatures of magic. They used them to create a spell that would allow them to come to our world, leaving the darkest creatures and the most powerful children with the potential to turn dark behind. The result; almost every magical creature imaginable. Pixies, elves, satyrs, and woodlands showed up in the forests. Mermaids, nymphs and selkies were suddenly in the oceans and rivers. Pegasi, dragons, and fairies were all over the skies.

Me? I'm an elf.

Not like the light elves (I wouldn't last a day there, too cold in the arctic), I'm a woodland elf. My dad was an elf, too, who came to our world with all the other mythical creatures. Mum always says that my brother and I look just like him. Tall and lean, with messy dark hair, and hazel eyes. He was 18 when he came into this world, same age as my mother. 15 years later...

"Mum I'm out of socks!"
"Jess! Get Adrian some socks!"
"He can get his own socks!"
A big happy family, minus the dad.

Adrian shuffled over to my door and slumped against the wall. 11years old and 164 centimeters, he was among the tallest in his class. He was also cuter than most girls at our school, and was often confused as one. But contrary to most elves, who use thin and tall structure to excel in sports, he was a scholarly type. Very few was the day that he wasn't walking around with sketchbooks, novels, and a calculator.
"Can I have a pair of your socks?" He asked, and held out his hand. I pointed at him, my charm glowing, (I had to wear a long necklace with a stone 'charm' to channel my magic, like all elves. Mine was an oak leaf.) and said;

"Socks!" I flicked my first two fingers. The glow shot out of my charm and hit a folded pair of socks, which flew out of the basket at the speed of a bullet, and hit him in the stomach. A perfect propelling spell.

Before he could recover, I darted out of the room laughing and leapt onto the banister. When I got to the end, I tilted backwards, and tumbled off into a tangled pile of limbs. My Mum of course, heard the noise and peeked through the kitchen doorway.

"Morning Mum," I called, waving while upside down..

"Jess," she said, sounding exasperated. She weeded through the kitchen, and yanked me to my feet. "What are you wearing?" I looked down.

"Um, a grey shirt, pants, shoes, underthings... Some soc-"

She stared at me while I droned on, and shook her head. "Never mind. It's chilly out there, where's your brother?" She tossed me a jacket, and pulled a pot out of the refrigerator.

"He's upstairs, trying to find his pens." I ducked to avoid her attempt to fix my hair. It was messy and short, with my ears sticking out. She liked it brushed.

She sighed and turned around to scoop some oatmeal in a bowl. "At least brush it."

"Nope," I said, sticking a finger in the bowl to me to heat it up. "Going for a personal record; two weeks without brushing."
She turned around and grabbed the now bubbling bowl of oats away from me, and set it on the counter. "Use the microwave, you'll turn it green again. You still haven't mastered that spell." I scowled. "I haven't done that since I was 10!" Pulling the the bowl back towards me, I scooped some brown sugar into it. "Besides, it had raisins in it. I can't work with raisins. This," I said, lifting a spoonful and taking a bite, "Does not have raisins." we heard someone thumping down the stairs, and turned to see Adrian struggling with his things.
