Chapter 4 ~
Aaron's POV ~
I felt a coolness on my forehead. It was refreshing and relaxing.
I didn't want to open my eyes, I just wanted to sleep.
I huffed a sigh as I flickered my eyelids open lightly and was greeted with a beautiful face smiling down at me."Hey." Robert whispered softly, followed by a warm smile.
"Hey." I said groggily, last nights occurrences rushing back into my mind.
Robert chuckled. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright. Just a bit sore and a bit light-headed." I admitted before reaching up and touching Robert's bruised cheek. "You okay?"
"I'm okay." Robert smiled. The dim light in my bedroom insinuating Robert's bruises more. They were a mix of purple, yellow and green. "Your mum wasn't entirely happy to see me but she was grateful that I carried you in."
"I'm sorry, Robert." I said, sympathetically. "She always keeps her grudges." I roll my eyes before saying, "Thanks for carrying me in." I squeeze Robert's shoulder with my hand lightly.
Robert looks at my hand on his shoulder before lifting his head up and smiles. "It's okay." Robert bites his lip lightly before shaking his head.
"Are ya-" My sentence gets cut off by Robert unexpectedly leaning down and kissing my cheek softly. I close my eyes at the close contact. The kiss felt different from other kisses I had over the past months. They weren't rough or unpleasant.. It was softer, more gentle. It was warm; like it was meant to be.
Robert pulls back quickly with wide-eyes before saying frantically, "I'm sorry! I shouldn't have-"
I interrupt quickly, "It's okay, Rob." I smile reassuringly before leaning forward and pressing a kiss on Robert's cheek lightly against his bruises.
Robert leans his head into the crook of my neck before shutting his eyes. I tilt his head up lightly before kissing up his cheek and over the side of Robert's face, close to his eye.
I wrap my arms around Robert's waist and hold him tightly against my chest.
Robert slightly moves back as he winces slightly."I'm sorry." I apologised quickly before rubbing his sides affectionately.
"It's fine. My sides are just a bit sore from yesterday that's all.... It was worth it though to be able to protect you"
I smile slightly before saying, "I'm glad I've gotten away from Alex. I hope he never comes back."
"He won't if he knows what's good for him!" Robert wraps an arm around my body.
I scoff. "Believe me he doesn't! I wouldn't of been stuck with him if he had."
Robert nods quickly. "I know. I wouldn't of been stuck either."
I pull Robert closer before asking, "How did you meet Alex?" Robert stiffens up and he shifts awkwardly. I frown before stroking his hair. "If you don't want to tell me, ya don't have to."
Robert looks up into my blue eyes before saying, "It's not that, believe me." Robert smiles slightly. "When... When I left the village in 2001. I wasn't in a good place with my family especially with my dad. Y'know he'd beat me regularly and made me feel worthless." Robert's eyes became sad and I wrapped my arms tighter around the man.
"I'm so sorry Robert, you didn't deserve that." I kiss Robert's forehead and he stuffs his face further into my chest for comfort.
"It's alright Aaron." Robert holds my hand gently. "After my dad threw me out, I had nobody. I didn't fall apart at first, I easily found a job and a place to stay but after a while the job and the money went south then... I had nothing." Robert frowns quickly before saying, "Alex found me on the streets really, battered and bruised by some gangsters."
